Cleaning furniture with a Karcher steam cleaner will help get rid of bacteria, mites and stubborn dirt. This is a simple and safe procedure that does not require special skills and training. And the upholstery fabric itself, in addition to cleanliness, will acquire a pleasant texture.
For more efficient cleaning (e.g. removing stubborn dirt from liquids, including biological origin, pet hair and dust), it is recommended to use a steam cleaner together with a vacuum cleaner. First – steam the stain, and then – remove it with a vacuum cleaner.
Preparing furniture for cleaning with a Karcher steam cleaner
Proper preparation will help remove even difficult stains. But at the same time, it does not differ in complexity.
First of all, you need to vacuum the upholstery. Even if the sofa seems clean, there are microparticles of leather, dust and other debris on it, which, when wet, can cause stains and stains. Vacuum the sofa and cushions thoroughly on all sides using the furniture nozzle.
It is important to pay attention to the folds in the fabric. This is where most of the dust and debris collects. “Walk” the vacuum cleaner under it several times.
Cleaning the sofa with a Karcher steam cleaner
Steam will help to cope with not only pollution. It is also a great and easy way to fight bacteria and mites without causing allergies. A powerful stream of high-temperature steam with careful processing destroys more than 99% of microorganisms.
First you need to prepare the steam cleaner by filling the tank with water. Many people believe that distilled water, which does not leave scale, is best suited for these purposes. But this manufacturer does not recommend its use, since it is much more difficult to evaporate. It is better to fill the tank with ordinary tap water. If you live in an area with very hard water, you can dilute it with distilled water. It is also necessary to choose a suitable nozzle that will not damage the upholstery of the sofa. This can be a brush or cloth attachment, depending on your steam cleaner model.
Start cleaning with pillows. Turn on the device. There is a button on it, by pressing which steam is supplied. Clean the pillow on one side and leave it to dry. If the treatment is carried out immediately on both sides, the item will get rid of moisture for a long time, which can damage the fabric. Soak up excess water with microfiber cloths. If necessary, process the product on the other side, after it dries.
Clean the sofa itself. Steam on small areas of the upholstery at a time, collecting excess water with microfiber cloths. It is not advisable to try to treat a large area at once – too much water may accumulate there while you process the remaining areas. Because of this, the water will saturate the material too much, and the sofa will dry much longer. Continue until you have cleaned the entire surface.
After steaming and cleaning the upholstery, let the sofa dry. The time required for this depends on the humidity of the steam used and the availability of sunlight – make sure you open the curtains. You can speed up the drying process by using a hair dryer, a fan, or by ventilating the room well.
If you see stains on the fabric, repeat the treatment. Their appearance usually means that the sofa was heavily soiled when you started steaming.
Important: be very careful when handling polished furniture. Exposure to high temperatures can damage polish and varnish.
Cleaning the sofa with a Karcher steam cleaner with the addition of household chemicals
With the help of steam, you can remove many different contaminants. But if you still need to remove old stains with chemicals, you can use a special washing vacuum cleaner. Or, before steaming, pre-treat the stains by applying chemicals to them, which we will discuss in more detail.
It’s important: When using the methods below, test the product on a small, inconspicuous area of the upholstery first to make sure it does not harm the fabric or cause fading.
Start with the most gentle way with soap and water. Soak a clean sponge in water and wring it out. Apply some dishwashing detergent to the sponge. Carefully, so as not to damage the upholstery, rub the stain, covering it with foam. Blot the stain with a clean, damp sponge to remove excess soap from the surface. Carry out the steam treatment as usual.
Instead of a soapy solution, you can try using vinegar or vodka. Soak a clean white cloth with table vinegar or vodka. Blot the stain on the upholstery. Do not rub the upholstery to avoid damaging the fabric or spreading dirt. Carry out the steam treatment as usual.
It is worth noting that the steam cleaner is useless for leather furniture (or sofas upholstered in leatherette or eco-leather). Hot air does not penetrate through this material. Moreover, in some cases, steam can damage the skin.
