Catching grass carp on a feeder (spring, summer, autumn): tackle, bait

This fish is popular throughout the former Soviet Union, although initially its habitat was the Amur River basin. The grass carp liked the fact that it feeds on algae and phytoplankton, which is one of the ways to cleanse water bodies, in addition, the fish grows quickly and has fatty and very tasty meat. These characteristic features of grass carp became the basis for its mass cultivation.

You can catch it with an ordinary float fishing rod or a fishing rod for bottom fishing, or rather with a feeder. The feeder rod has some advantages in relation to other bottom gear. Feeder gear allows you to make long-range and accurate casts, while feeding grass carp. Moreover, the feeder rod is not only durable, but also very sensitive. Bites are transmitted to the tip of the rod, so you can safely do without bite signaling devices.

Tackle

This fish can weigh up to 20 kg, which means that powerful and reliable tackle is required to catch it.

  • for these purposes, you can use a feeder, about 3,6 m long with dough from 40 to 80 g.
  • The rod can be equipped with a 3000-3500 size reel.
  • for the main line, you can take either a monofilament or a braided line, with a diameter of 0,25-0,3mm.
  • leashes can be used from 30 to 80 cm long with fishing line, 0,2 mm thick. Better if it is fluorocarbon.
  • the hook must be of high quality: strong and sharp.

Tooling

When using a feeder, the following installation methods are used:

  • Paternoster of Gardner.
  • The tube is an anti-twist.
  • Symmetrical or asymmetrical loop.

When fishing on still water, all the proposed ways of attaching the feeder have proven themselves well. The angler should have several types of feeders available, including feeders of the “method” type. From this feeder, the food is washed out much faster than from traditional “cages”, which can attract grass carp to the place of fishing much faster.

Nozzles and bait

As soon as grass carp appeared in the nearest reservoirs, they began to catch it with such baits:

  • dandelion leaves and stems;
  • leaves of cabbage, corn, willow;
  • pods of peas and beans;
  • dough mixed with a decoction or juice of greens;
  • other greens.

When they began to grow grass carp on an industrial scale, grass carp began to peck at classic fishing baits, such as:

  • corn;
  • worm;
  • wheat;
  • bloodworms;
  • maidservant;
  • peas
  • tall.

Lure

When catching grass carp, it is very important that there is a lot of mixture. The calculation of the amount of the mixture is based on the daily norm, which can reach 7 kg.

It is possible to use any bait mixtures, including ready-made ones purchased for catching carp on feeder tackle. If you add loosening ingredients such as “bomb” to the finished mixture, then the effect will be excellent, since the pop-up elements of the bait create a cloud of turbidity at the right point. This cloud will definitely attract grass carp, which is located in thickets of aquatic vegetation. It is advisable to add a few hemp seeds or components of nozzles that are intended for catching grass carp to the finished mixture.

Seasons and bite of grass carp

This fish is quite thermophilic, therefore, it begins to peck actively only after the water warms up to + 13-15 ° С. By this time, greenery begins to grow rapidly in the reservoirs, which is the main food supply for grass carp. With an increase in water temperature, its biting is also activated, which continues until the moment when the water in the reservoir cools down to + 10 ° C.

Spring bite of grass carp

Somewhere between mid-April and early May, grass carp begins to peck. During this period, he actively pecks at a worm, fresh greens or bloodworms. For fishing, it is necessary to choose warm, small areas, and it should not be baited. During this period, the fish is weakened and does not create much resistance when playing.

Catching white carp in the summer

Summer is the best period for catching grass carp, as well as for other types of fish. Starting from June, you can effectively catch this fish, and starting from July, a real zhor begins at grass carp. During this period, he can be offered the following nozzles of plant origin:

  • slices of fresh cucumbers;
  • berries or fruits;
  • filamentous algae
  • corn.

Before the start of spawning, which usually occurs when the water temperature warms up to +25°C, grass carp bite is constantly improving.

Biting white carp in the autumn

If favorable weather is observed in the autumn period, then grass carp does not give up feeding, but effective biting can only be achieved during periods of warm and cloudy weather. When cold periods come, the fish stops feeding and you should not count on a productive bite. With the onset of the first night frosts, grass carp stops feeding and begins to prepare for wintering.

Feeder fishing, like any other fishing, is a very interesting, lively and exciting activity. This is an active type of recreation, since fishing on a feeder takes place in dynamics, which consists in the fact that you need to constantly check the tackle for the presence of food in the feeder. As a rule, the feed is washed out within 5 minutes and, if during this time, no bite occurs, the tackle should be pulled out of the water and a new portion of feed should be filled into the feeder.

The grass carp often swims closer to the surface of the water, creating whirlpools. Therefore, it is not very difficult to determine a promising place, especially since the fish can be closer to water thickets, since it feeds there. Well, if there was a bite, then you need to be ready for combat with a fairly strong fish.
