Description of indoor jasmine “Sambac”

Jasmine of this species is an evergreen shrub up to 2 m in height. Its shoots are curly or climbing. Stems are thin, brown in color. They resemble tree branches.

Leaves are simple, trifoliate, located opposite each other. Their length is 2-10 cm. The flowers are elongated into tubes, open at the end. They are large, collected in inflorescences of 3-5 pieces, very fragrant. There are terry and semi-double. In appearance, they look more like rose or camellia flowers.

Flowering lasts up to 3 months, falling from March to October. Under favorable conditions, jasmine can bloom for a whole year.

Grow it in a large pot to keep it sprawling. Repot the flower every year. Choose a pot according to the size of the root system. Be sure to put a drainage layer on the bottom. The flower does not tolerate stagnation of water.

Jasmine loves warmth and high humidity. It is advisable to grow it on the southern windowsill; in the area of ​​the room with insufficient lighting, the leaves will acquire a darker shade.

Jasmine care:

  • To maintain the decorative effect of the flower and long-term flowering, shaping pruning is needed. Remove diseased, dry and old shoots in the spring. Flowers are formed only on young branches. During flowering, shorten those shoots that do not have buds. If after pruning the flowers still do not appear, remove the branch completely. Trim the bush in the fall to form a crown.
  • Moisten the soil as it dries. Reduce watering in winter. On hot days, give the flower a water shower. Several times a month, water for irrigation can be acidified, add 1-4 drops of lemon juice to 5 liter of liquid.
  • Feed the jasmine once a week during flowering. Use special food for flowering houseplants. Better to buy liquid products.

If you do not create comfortable living conditions for the bush, then it will begin to fade.

Indoor jasmine “Sambac” is a thermophilic plant. It can be grown in containers in the garden, but only in the southern regions. The air temperature during the day should not drop below 20˚С, and at night – below 15˚С.
