A blood test is the primary way to find out what’s going on inside your body. Complicated diagnostics are not needed to determine the presence of inflammation or to detect the cause of disturbing ailments. Thanks to the blood test, it is possible to diagnose diseases of the circulatory system or diabetes, and to start treatment in case of thyroid problems.

It is recommended to have a preventive blood test once a year, although of course there are cases in which it should be done more often (source: medistore). It depends largely on how you feel or any disturbing symptoms. The easiest way is to start with the complete blood count with the Biernacki reaction index (ESR). Thanks to the results of these tests, it is possible to determine whether the functions of the circulatory system or organs such as kidneys, liver or endocrine glands are functioning properly. An examination that shows abnormalities and deviations from the norm is a prerequisite for starting more complicated diagnostics.

Testing hormones and blood sugar

There is a group of ailments whose occurrence should lead to blood tests. One of them is the feeling of constant fatigue and long-term weakness. It happens that feeling worse is the result of a specific event or long hours spent at work. However, if the fatigue does not subside after a few days, you should go to the doctor who will refer you for a basic blood test. The ESR test will allow you to determine whether the body is struggling with an infection or whether the body does not have too low a content of erythrocytes or hemoglobin. Another argument for performing a blood test is weight loss, which occurred despite not using a slimming diet and taking the same amount of food. This may be associated with irritability and a feeling of heat. These symptoms suggest that thyroid hormone levels such as TSH, T3 and T4 should be checked. The level of these hormones, which deviates from the norm, may signal a malfunction of the thyroid gland. Alarming symptoms may also be a constant feeling of thirst, as well as an excessive tendency to bruise. The indicated symptoms may be the source of diabetes, the presence of which can be demonstrated by a blood sugar level test.

Prophylaxis after the age of 40

After the age of forty, it is worth including a blood test for lipid profile in the prophylaxis. Thanks to this, you can check the general level of cholesterol, whose too high concentration (LDL cholesterol) can lead to atherosclerosis or other dangerous cardiovascular diseases. It is important that such a test indicates not only the total cholesterol level, but also its concentration broken down into fractions: good HDL cholesterol and bad LDL. A lipidogram can be performed systematically also before the age of forty, when the diet is high in calories and rich in fatty meats and meats.
