Bioxetin – action, indications, contraindications, use

Bioxetin is a prescription antidepressant medicine. Contains fluoxetine 20 mg in one tablet. It is sold in a package of 30 pieces. It is a drug reimbursed by the National Health Fund.

How does Bioxetin work and how is it used?

The active substance of the preparation Bioxetine jest fluoxetine. This substance belongs to a group of drugs called SSRIs – selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Serotonin, commonly known as the happiness hormone, is a neurotransmitter whose deficiency can cause depression, fatigue or aggression. Fluoxetine works inter alia, by blocking the serotonin transporter (SERT). Due to its mechanism actions is a drug used in such disorders as: episodes of major depression (in patients with depression leczenie should last at least 6 months), obsessive-compulsive disorders, i.e. intrusive thoughts, compulsive behavior – formerly known as obsessive compulsive disorder (leczenie a minimum of 10 weeks, if there is no improvement after this period, a change to another drug should be considered), bulimia nervosa – bulimia nervosa – in this case as an adjunct to psychotherapy. Usually in the first two diseases applies the dose is 20 mg – 1 tablet a day, and in case of bulimia nervosa 60 mg – 3 tablets a day, but the dosage should be individually selected by the doctor. Please note that the therapeutic effect may not appear until several weeks after usage drug. Until then, patients should remain under close medical supervision, especially if they are depressed and have thoughts of suicide. When finished treatment should not be put aside fluoxetine suddenly but gradually reduce the dose as you may experience withdrawal symptoms, mainly dizziness and headache, sleep disturbances, asthenia (weakness), agitation or anxiety, nausea, vomiting, and sensory disturbances.

Contraindications and precautions when taking Bioxetin

Ruthless a contraindication do application drug is hypersensitive to its active substance or any of the excipients (contains lactose).

The use of the drug is not recommended Bioxetine during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Due to insufficient data, it is safer not to use Bioxetinu also in children up to 18 years of age.

The drug affects psychomotor performance and may impair driving reactions.

Fluoxetine has numerous interactions with many other medicines, please read the leaflet carefully and inform your doctor if you are taking any other medicines. You absolutely shouldn’t use with MAO inhibitors – another class of drugs, also used w treatment depression. Treatment fluoxetine can only be started 14 days after discontinuation of MAO inhibitors.

Take special care in treatment with fluoxetine patients with epilepsy, diabetes, cardiac disorders, blood coagulation disorders.

Bioxetineas a medicine that acts on the nervous system, it can cause many side effects. Some of them are symptoms of hypersensitivity, gastrointestinal disturbances, headache and dizziness, sleep disturbances, dry mouth. Whenever you notice any disturbing symptom, you should report it to your doctor.
