Bad breath that occurs quite often, rather than occasionally, has its own medical name – the condition is called halitosis. In fact, most of us have mild to moderate problems with bad breath, usually in the morning after waking up. This is due to the digestion of food at night, but it can also be associated with damage to the oral cavity or excessive tartar. How to deal with this problem, how to prevent it? About it below!

Causes of the problem

Often it is simply incorrect oral hygiene and related problems such as: caries, tartar, food residues left in the mouth, incorrect tongue hygiene, which also harbors bacteria responsible for the formation of unpleasant odor from the mouth. When we see a bright coating on our tongue, especially in its back part, it may indicate the development of bacteria that cause the unpleasant smell of breath. Heartburn and hyperacidity can also cause an unpleasant odor in the mouth.

Enlarged tonsils and diseases of the digestive system

Enlarged tonsils can be a symptom of more severe allergies, angina or other ailments. However, this is due to the fact that it can contribute to the deposition of food residues, and thus cause their decomposition. This causes an unpleasant odor from the mouth also during the day.

Bad breath can also be caused by diseases of the digestive system, including fungal infections or cancer. Very often it is associated with gastric ulcer or gastritis. Sometimes also with abnormal stomach functions, e.g. secretion of too small amounts of digestive enzymes. So, if the unpleasant smell from the mouth is accompanied by other symptoms, it is worth reporting this problem to the doctor as soon as possible.

Ways to fight the problem

  • Frequent brushing of teeth and attention to oral hygiene. It is also worth using mouth rinses instead of ordinary toothpaste, which will help get rid of tartar, have a bactericidal effect and quickly deal with the feeling of unpleasant odor
  • First of all, you should go to the dentist and treat any cavities in the teeth and cure caries. The dentist can also help remove plaque
  • It is also worth visiting a general practitioner who can help, for example, in the enlargement of the tonsils and examine the patient also in terms of other diseases, excluding stomach diseases, including cancer
  • It is worth drinking mineral water often, which cleans the oral cavity and the entire digestive tract, allowing the washing away of food remains and bacteria. People who are highly stressed or women during menstruation should drink water especially often. Then the mechanisms of saliva production, which naturally helps in rinsing the mouth, are slightly disturbed
