Bactroban is a drug used in dermatology to treat bacterial skin infections. The preparation has a bactericidal effect. The active substance of the preparation is mupirocin. Bactroban is available as an ointment and cream for topical application to the skin and can only be obtained with a prescription.

  1. Hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation.
  2. Do not use the preparation in the eyes or nose.
  3. Do not mix Bactroban ointment with other preparations (risk of dilution of the active substance and loss of effectiveness).
  4. There is no need to adjust the dosage of Bactroban cream in people with renal or hepatic impairment.
  5. Caution should be exercised when using the preparation in the form of an ointment in people with moderate or severe renal impairment.

Bactroban – side effects

  1. skin hypersensitivity reactions (including hives, itching, erythema, burning sensation, contact dermatitis, rash),
  2. skin irritation and skin dryness,
  3. general allergic reactions during the use of ointments (rarely).
