His progress in gross motor skills

At 6 months, your baby is very active et controls his gestures. From now on, his movements and actions become voluntary and are no longer just “archaic” or automatic. At this point, you should be very vigilant and not leave your baby alone on the sofa, for example. And for good reason, he often turns from his stomach to his back, then from his back to his stomach. Your child also moves more and more by rolling on himself. He is arriving at stand with outstretched arms and palms flat on the floor. His progress in fine motor skills

Much more skillful with his hands, your baby is now stretching out his fingers to reach what interests him. He always carry the toys to the mouth. This is called the ” stade oral “. In fact, until the age of 1 year, sucking is the source of all the pleasures for your little one. Complement of his sight and his touch, his mouth allows him to better discover his body (his fingers, his feet…), but also all the objects which come to his hand.

At 6 months, your little one’s curiosity is also developing. He is interested in the people he meets and seeks their attention, especially if you are in the company of friends or relatives.

In six months, your baby has doubled her birth weight. On average, at this age, children weigh between 5,6 and 9 kg, according to the templates, and measure between 60 and 71 cm. Your child’s head circumference size now averages 43 cm.

Watch for the arrival of his first teeth. In some children, they break through as early as 3 months, and in others later. No worries, then, if your little one doesn’t have any sticks. Namely: the very first teeth, the lower central incisors, are generally not painful. However, their arrival can cause small digestive and intestinal problems.

At 6 months, your baby’s immune system changes. The antibodies received from the mother disappear and the children build their own immunity by reacting to the germs encountered.

Vaccines

For children with respiratory pathology (chronic bronchopulmonary infections, respiratory insufficiencies…), an annual dose of vaccine against influenza is recommended.

Feeding your baby at 6 months

No more milk as the only food, even if it remains your child’s main diet. At 6 months, your little gourmet begins his food diversification, that is, to slowly discover new foods. Little by little, it is also possible to add cereals to your bottle once a day.

This month, parents can also introduce the animal protein in meals. To avoid and detect any allergic reaction, introduce him to foods, especially fish, one by one. You can also give your baby 100 g of a mixture of vegetables, divided between midday and evening meals. Note that up to 1 year of age, his food remains mixed. Indeed, even if your little one has teeth, he does not yet have the reflex to chew.

Your baby’s sleep at 6 months

By 6 months, your baby has acquired a regular sleep pattern. Normally, for one or two months, your child sleeps through the nights worry-free. Do not hesitate to talk to your doctor if this is not the case. During the day, your little one does 3 naps per day. Each sleep cycle lasts approximately 70 minutes.

If you hesitate to buy a night light, know that at this stage, babies are not afraid of the dark! This fear arises in some children only, between 8 and 12 months. Before this age, this accessory will especially allow you to find your way in the bedroom. A tip: choose a soft and dim light.
