Apple presentations 2022: dates and new items

2021 has been an interesting year for Apple. The company introduced the iPhone 13, the MacBook Pro line of laptops, AirPods 3, and even started selling a brand new AirTag geotracker to the public. Usually, Apple holds 3-4 conferences a year, so 2022 will be no less interesting.

Since March 2022, Apple products have not been officially delivered to Our Country – this is the position of the company due to the military special operation conducted by the Armed Forces in Ukraine. Of course, parallel imports will bypass most of the restrictions, but in what quantity and at what price Apple products will be sold in the Federation remains a mystery.

Apple WWDC Summer Presentation June 6

In early June, Apple holds its traditional summer Worldwide Developers Conference for developers. On one of the days of the conference, a public presentation is held. On June 6, it presented two new models of MacBook on the M2 processor, as well as operating system updates for smartphones, tablets, laptops and watches.

New MacBooks on the M2 processor

Apple M2 processor

The main novelty of WWDC 2022, perhaps, was the new M2 processor. It has eight cores: four high performance and four power efficient. The chip is capable of processing up to 100 GB of data per second with the support of 24 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 2 TB of permanent SSD memory.

Cupertino claims that the new chip is 1% more efficient than the M25 (in terms of overall performance), but at the same time it is able to provide autonomous operation of the device for 20 hours.

The graphics accelerator consists of 10 cores and is capable of processing 55 gigapixels per second (in M1 this figure is one third lower), and the built-in video card allows you to work with 8K video in multi-threaded mode.

The M2 is already installed on the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models, which also debuted at WWDC on June 6th.

MacBook Air 2022

The new 2022 MacBook Air boasts compactness and performance. So, the 13.6-inch Liquid Retina screen is 25% brighter than the previous Air model.

The laptop runs on the new M2 processor, supports RAM expansion up to 24 GB, as well as the installation of an SSD drive with a capacity of up to 2 TB.

The front camera has a resolution of 1080p, according to the manufacturer, it is able to capture twice as much light as the previous model. Three microphones are responsible for sound capture, and four speakers with support for Dolby Atmos spatial audio format are responsible for playback.

Battery life – up to 18 hours in video playback mode, charging type – MagSafe.

At the same time, the thickness of the device is only 11,3 mm, and there is no cooler in it.

The price of a laptop in the US is from $1199, the price in Our Country, as well as the timing of the appearance of the device on sale, is still impossible to predict.

MacBook Pro 2022

The 2022 MacBook Pro has the same design as its predecessors from last year. However, if in 2021 models with screen sizes of 14 and 16 inches were released to the market, then the Cupertino team decided to make the new Pro version more compact: 13 inches. Screen brightness is 500 nits.

The laptop runs on the new M2 processor, the device can be equipped with 24 GB of RAM and 2 TB of permanent memory. M2 allows you to work with video resolution 8K even in streaming mode.

The manufacturer claims that the new Pro is equipped with “studio-quality” microphones, and if this is true, then now you can forget about external microphones for recording speech programs or podcasts. This means that the 2022 MacBook Pro is great not only for designers, but also for those who create videos or presentations from scratch.

The promised battery life is 20 hours, charging type is Thunderbolt.

The price of the device in the USA is from 1299 dollars.

New iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, macOS

iOS 16 

The new iOS 16 received an updated lock screen that supports dynamic widgets and 3D images. At the same time, it can be synchronized with the Safari browser and other applications.

One of the key innovations in iOS 16 is an improved security check that allows you to quickly disable access to personal data in an emergency. At the same time, the family one was also expanded – it became possible to create photo libraries for joint editing.

The iMessage feature has been enhanced with the ability to not only edit messages, but also unsend them, even if the message has already gone. The SharePlay option, which allows multiple users who are far apart to watch videos or listen to music together, is now compatible with iMessage.

iOS 16 has learned to recognize speech and show subtitles during video playback. Also added is voice input, which recognizes the entry and is able to turn it into text on the fly. At the same time, you can switch from text input to voice input and vice versa at any time. But there is no support for the language yet.

The Home application has been improved, the interface has been changed, and now you can see data from all sensors and cameras on a shared smartphone. The Apple Pay Later feature will allow you to buy goods on credit, but so far it only works in some countries, including the US and the UK.

The update is available for iPhone models up to and including the eighth generation.

iPadOS 16

The main “chips” of the new iPadOS are support for the multi-window mode (Stage Manager) and the Collaboration option, which allows two or more users to edit documents simultaneously. It is important that this option is a system option, and application developers will be able to connect it to their applications.

The Game Center app now supports multiple user profiles. The new algorithm is able to identify objects in the photo and automatically remove them. You can also share photos with other users in a separate cloud folder (other users will not have access to the main photo library).

The update is available for all models of iPad Pro, iPad Air (XNUMXrd generation and up), iPad, and iPad Mini (XNUMXth generation).

macOS Ventura

The main innovation is the Stage Manager feature, which allows you to group running programs on the desktop on the side in order to concentrate on the main window open in the center of the screen, but at the same time be able to quickly call up any program.

The Quick Look function in the search allows you to quickly generate a preview of files, and it works not only with files on the device, but also on the network. For example, the user can search for photos not only by file name, but by objects, scenes, location, and the Live Text function will allow you to search by text in the photo. The function supports English, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.

In the Safari browser, you can now share tabs with other users. The password manager has been enhanced with the Passkeys feature, which allows you to permanently refuse to enter passwords if you use Touch ID or Face ID. Passkeys supports synchronization with other Apple devices, and also allows you to use compatible applications, sites on the Internet and on devices from other manufacturers, including Windows.

The Mail application has the ability to cancel sending a letter, as well as set the time for sending correspondence. Finally, with the help of the Continuity utility, the iPhone can work as a camera for Mac, while retaining the ability to use the laptop’s stock camera.

Watch 9

With the new version of watchOS 9, Apple smartwatches can now track sleep phases, measure heart rate more accurately, and alert the wearer to potential heart problems.

All measurements are automatically entered into the Health app. If you live in the US, you can share this information with your doctor.

Added new dials, calendars, astronomical maps. And for those who do not like to sit still, a “challenging mode” is built in. You can compete with other Apple Watch users.

Apple presentation March 8

Apple’s spring presentation took place on March 8, International Women’s Day. The live stream lasted about an hour. It showed both obvious novelties and those that insiders did not talk about. Let’s talk about everything in order.

Apple TV +

Nothing radically new for the audience was shown in the paid video subscription for the Apple system. Several new films and cartoons were announced, as well as a Friday baseball show. It is clear that the last part was intended exclusively for subscribers from the United States – this is where this sport breaks all records of popularity.

Green iPhone 13

Last year’s iPhone model received a visually pleasing change in appearance. The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro are now available in a dark green color called Alpine Green. This device has been on sale since March 18. The price corresponds to the standard cost of the iPhone 13.

iPhone SE 3 

At the March presentation, Apple showed the new iPhone SE 3. Outwardly, it has not changed much – there remains a 4.7-inch display, the only eye of the main camera and a physical Home button with Touch ID. 

From the iPhone 13, a new model of Apple’s budget smartphone received body materials and the A15 Bionic processor. The latter will provide better system performance, advanced photo processing, and allow the iPhone SE 3 to work on 5G networks.

The smartphone is presented in three colors, it is on sale since March 18, the minimum cost is $429.

iPad Air 5 2022

Externally, the iPad Air 5 is not so easy to distinguish from its predecessor. The main changes in the model lie in the “iron” part. The new device has finally completely moved to M-series mobile chips. The iPad Air runs on the M1 – and this gives it the ability to use 5G networks. 

The tablet also has an ultra-wide front camera and a more powerful version of USB-C. The iPad Air 5 line has only one new case color – blue.

The new iPad Air 5 2022 starts at $599 and has been on sale since March 18.

MacStudio

Before the presentation to the public, not much was known about this device. It turned out that Apple was preparing a powerful desktop computer designed exclusively for solving professional tasks. Mac Studio can run on the M1 Max processor already known from the MacBook Pro and the brand new 20-core M1 Ultra.

Outwardly, Mac Studio resembles a harmless Mac Mini, but inside a small metal box hides very powerful hardware. Top configurations can get up to 128 gigabytes of combined memory (48 – the memory of a 64-core video card built into the processor) and a 20-core M1 Ultra. 

The amount of built-in memory Mac Studio can be overclocked up to 8 terabytes. In terms of processor performance, the new compact computer is 60% more powerful than the current iMac Pro. Mac Studio has 4 Thunderbolt ports, Ethernet, HDMI, Jack 3.5 and 2 USB ports.

Mac Studio on the M1 Pro starts at $1999 and on the M1 Ultra starts at $3999. On sale both computers since March, 18th.

Apple implies that Mac Studio will be used with the new Studio Display. This is a 27-inch 5K Retina display (5120 x 2880 resolution) with a built-in webcam, three microphones and a separate A13 processor. 

However, other Apple devices, such as MacBook Pro or Air, can be connected to the new monitor. It is reported that in this case, the monitor will be able to charge devices through the Thunderbolt port.

Apple presentation in the fall of 2022

In September, Apple usually holds a conference where they show off the new iPhone. Fresh phone becomes the main theme of the whole event.

iPhone 14

Earlier, we reported that the new version of the Apple smartphone will lose the mini format device. However, there will be four options for the main novelty of the American company – iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max (both with a screen diagonal of 6,1 inches), iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max (here the diagonal will increase to the standard 6,7 inches).

Of the external changes, the disappearance of the upper “bangs” from the screens of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max is expected. Instead, Touch ID built right into the screen may return. The annoying protruding part of the rear camera module in the iPhone can finally disappear – all the lenses will fit inside the smartphone case.

Also, the updated iPhone will receive a more powerful A16 processor, and an evaporative system can cool it.

Apple Watch Series 8

Apple also has an annual lineup of its branded smartwatches. This time they can show a new product, which will be called Series 8. Considering modern realities, it can be assumed that Apple developers have directed all their efforts to improving the “medical” part of the device. 

For example, it has long been rumored that the Series 8 will monitor body temperature and blood glucose levels.⁷. The appearance of the watch may also change slightly.
