Cats, which are far more allergenic than dogs, are responsible for over 30% of pet allergies and can cause serious breathing problems if the allergy is not properly managed.

The causes

Cat allergy is triggered by a glycoprotein naturally present in the cat’s sebaceous glands, the Fel d1. Contrary to popular belief, cat hair itself is not allergenic.

It is found in dander, but also in the saliva, urine and in general, in all secretions of the cat (tears, mucus, etc.). This protein settles wherever the cat goes and spreads especially when washing. A few minutes to a few hours after having been in contact with the animal, or in an area where the animal was present, the allergic presents the first symptoms
