All about Hendrix gin

Briefly about the drink

Gene Hendrix (Hendrick’s) is one of the youngest and most extravagant drinks of its class.

It appeared in 1999 at one of the enterprises owned by the famous Scottish company William Grant and Sons (the one that at one time significantly enriched the whiskey world by creating the incomparable Glenfiddich).

By the way, most British brands of gin today are produced in Scotland. This is due to the high quality of local water, which is favorably distinguished by its taste data, natural softness and ecological cleanliness.

As for the extravagance of Hendrix, it is due to the addition of a truly revolutionary combination of the essence of Bulgarian rose petal oil and fresh Belgian cucumber puree to the drink.

If we talk about the rest of the composition of this product of Grant’s descendants of whiskey, then in addition to the traditional juniper berries and violet root, it includes the following ingredients: cumin and coriander seeds, elderberry and chamomile flowers, meadowsweet, cubeba berries, angelica root, as well as orange and lemon zest .

The story of Hendrix Gin

It all started with the fact that in 1966 the great-grandson of William Grant, Charles Gordon, acquired two rare distillation units on the occasion: a rather rare Carter apparatus of 1948 and an old Bennett brothers distillation pot, made back in 1860.

For a long 33 years, employees of the distillery company from time to time returned to the question of the practical use of the mentioned purchase. The work carried out in this direction has acquired a permanent, purposeful character since 1988. It was then that Leslie Gracie was invited to the company, whose botanical experiments were distinguished by extreme courage and freedom from generally accepted stereotypes.

As a result, after 11 years of hard work and numerous botanical research, a gin appeared that struck with its unusualness both venerable experts in the field of distillation and ordinary juniper drink lovers.

Production technology of Hendrix gin

Hendrick’s – This is a blend created from two alcohols distilled with the same set of ingredients, but in different proportions and using different distillers. At the same time, in order to achieve the optimal effect, the total volume of the fiery liquid used for one batch of the drink does not exceed 450 liters.

The first of the substances is first infused on plant components for a day, after which, roughly speaking, it is boiled in the distillation cube of the Bennett brothers. As a result, ordinary grain alcohol turns into a multifaceted vegetable distillate of deep saturation.

The second one is obtained as a result of steaming the same set of plants placed in a special basket with sublimated alcohol. This is done in a Carter apparatus specially adapted for such manipulations. As a result, the alcohol passed through the basket acquires soft floral and citrus notes.

In the future, both alcohols are mixed, enriched with rose and cucumber extracts, after which they are diluted with water to a certain strength.

  1. The strength of drinks intended for intra-British use is 41,4 degrees.

  2. The export version reaches 44 revolutions.

How to drink Hendrix gin

The producers of this unusual drink are hot and strongly recommend using it in numerous cocktails.

It’s not just about aperitifs or mind-blowing blends designed for wild parties, but also about invigorating morning eye-openers, enchanting punches and soothing decoctions drunk at bedtime.

Among these cocktails, there are both variations on the theme of the classic Martini, Negroni and, of course, Gin and Tonic, as well as unique drinks specially invented by Hendrix brand ambassadors from around the world.

In addition, the mentioned rose-cucumber gin can serve as an excellent aperitif and in its pure form. At the same time, we advise you to do without any snacks. In our opinion, Hendrick’s gin deserves to experience its unique taste without distorting the latter with lemon or olives.
