With the advent of AIDS, the era of uninhibited sex came to an end. Now, however, that may change. A medicine to treat HIV was found to prevent people from catching the virus when they are taken before intercourse. Some doctors believe that it should be reimbursed to people who have an active sex life, because prevention is cheaper than treatment anyway. Others say it will cause an epidemic of sexually transmitted diseases as well as drug resistance to the virus.

AIDS treatment – the return of “free love”?

When the WHO (World Health Organization) recommended that homosexual men without regular partners take HIV antiretroviral drug prophylaxis prior to intercourse, many homosexuals announced the opening of a new era of unfettered intimate intimacy.

The drug has been used since 2004 to treat HIV infection and is now increasingly used by healthy people who want to have sex without a condom. A study by Ipergay, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, showed that taking only four pills protects against infection: 24 and 2 hours before sexual contact and 24 and 48 hours after. At this year’s “On Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections” conference, the results of the study were announced, which show that the prophylactic use of this preparation reduces the number of infections by as much as 86 percent.

  1. A condom is not enough, or how to avoid STDs?

On the Internet, on the “gay” sites, the following entries appeared: “do whatever you want, we have a preventive medicine”. Robert Piotr Łukasik, president of the Union for Living with HIV / AIDS “Positive in the Rainbow”, co-owner of a gay club at AIDS conferences, says that many homosexuals do not want to use condoms. In addition, the widespread availability of the drug mephedrone, which increases sex drive, makes risky party behavior common. – After the drug you can forget about the condom, but before going to the club you remember the pill – she emphasizes.

AIDS treatment – the price of profit and loss

Dr. Anna Marzec-Bogusławska from the National AIDS Center reminds that due to many sexually transmitted diseases, such as infectious jaundice or venereal diseases, the tablet alone is not a good strategy. “But most of them can be cured,” say the homosexuals. Sexologist prof. Zbigniew Izdebski adds that this pharmaceutical complicates negotiations with producers of pornographic films.

  1. How does porn change the brain and men’s tastes?

– We wanted them to promote the use of condoms. Now the producers don’t want to – he says. – It must not be forgotten that the drug may have side effects, and the condom does not – says Dr. Dorota Rogowska-Szadkowska from the Medical University in Białystok. Dr. Łukasz Łapiński, a physician and pharmacologist from the Medical University, Dr. Łapiński replies that the risk of their occurrence is minimal, because the drug is not taken every day.

He also notes that since some insurance companies in the USA finance it as part of AIDS prevention, it means that it pays off for them. Prof. Andrzej Gładysz, an infectious disease specialist, warns that the use of this drug as a preventive measure will lead to the situation we have in antibiotics – the virus will mutate and the drug will no longer be effective.

AIDS Treatment – Who Will Pay for Closeness?

WHO supports the use of this drug in the prevention of HIV infection. In Poland, reimbursement of such prophylaxis is not considered. However, the French are doing it, and the British are considering it.

  1. The seven most common venereal diseases

The Polish AIDS Scientific Society recommends the drug as a complementary prophylaxis, alongside a condom, in cohabitants with an HIV-infected partner who has not been treated with antiretroviral drugs, who use drugs intravenously together with an infected partner, in those who have previously participated in addiction therapy, but currently use drugs intravenously, in those who have a large number of sexual partners, with an interview indicative of condom-free use, sex workers, and engaging in risky behavior in an area or group with high HIV rates.
