If it is the child who torments us with constant requests to buy a pet, it is worth trying to get a breed that will not cause allergic reactions.
Cats hypoallergenic for most allergy sufferers, they are the way out when they want to have a pet. These cats are pedigree cats and are characterized by a nice disposition, they feel good in the company of children. So they are perfect for a home pet. Due to their origin, cats of certain breeds are less likely to cause allergic reactions.
Cat breeds for allergy sufferers
Among the cat breeds that may not be allergenic are:
— Siberian cat – according to some people, it is a cat that does not cause allergic reactions in 75% of allergy sufferers
— Balinese cat – is one of the few breeds that secrete less allergy-causing protein, which is why it is recommended for allergy sufferers
— sphinx – a breed of cats quite unusual due to the lack of fur. This does not mean that it requires less frequent care treatments. These cats need to be bathed regularly, as the sebum deposited in the skin folds can cause allergic problems. Large ears should also be cleaned frequently
— devon rex – has a short coat and less fur. Remember to regularly clean the ears and paw pads of accumulated oil. The advantage is that it does not require frequent bathing, such as the sphinx
Getting to know the cat
The downside is certainly the price of a cat, so it’s worth spending some time in its company before buying a cat. The issue of sensitization is largely an individual matter and everyone can react differently. To make sure that a cat will be suitable for us or for our child, you need to have contact with it beforehand.
A cat is better than a cat
When choosing a cat, it is worth remembering that females are less allergic than males. Therefore, it is better to opt for a cat that will also be spayed. This is because such a cat will certainly be less allergic than other cats.
If we already have a cat, our allergic reactions can be reduced by:
— frequent cat washing – about 2-3 times a week. Baths will reduce the amount of allergens that are also found in the cat’s saliva, which our favorite uses to wash its fur
— frequent brushing – always comb your cat thoroughly after bathing. We advise against combing ‘dry’ – the coat will then float in the air
— washing the cat’s toys – at least once a week

Disappearance of allergies
Sometimes there are cases where the body gets used to the cat and allergic reactions do not occur, they disappear on their own. Initially, at the first contact itching of the skin, runny nose and sneezing will certainly appear. However, over time, the body’s defenses may disappear on their own. It is not entirely clear why some allergies disappear, it is certainly an individual matter.
The main thing is that people suffering from allergies do not have to completely give up having a pet. You only need to follow a few simple rules when you already have a pet at home. If you are going to buy a cat from one hypoallergenic breed, you should find a breeder who will allow us to get to know the cat for some time and check our reaction to it. Then we will avoid disappointment and unnecessary stress.
