For parents who have not one, but three or more children, legislation provides for various bonuses. Among them is transport assistance. Irina Ryzhuk, Lawyer at Lapitsky & Partners Law Firm explains the nuances of such a benefit as a car for a large family in 2022. Can you get it for free? Who and what kind of car is supposed to? And do you have to pay taxes?
How to get a car for a large family
Measures to support large families, for the most part, are decided at the regional levels. Not everywhere provides for the provision of cars to such people. But there is also the state program “Family Car”. It has been extended until the end of 2023 and allows parents with three or more children to reduce the cost of buying a car.
– This is a government loan program. It allows a person to buy a car at a discount of 10% of the cost of the car. Residents of the Far East have a larger discount – 25%, – says Irina.
To participate in the program, you must complete the following steps.
1 step. Meet the conditions
The program participant must fall into the following categories:
- be a citizen of the Federation;
- raise two or more minor children;
- have permanent registration in the territory of one region, this applies to both spouses;
- the spouse to whom the car will be registered must have a driver’s license;
- previously a person did not use the right to receive a preferential car loan;
- the parent applying for the car has no other car loans;
- the buyer of the car must have a regular source of income.
To obtain the status of “large” you can contact the social service. There you will be assisted in obtaining benefits and applying for it.
2 step. Vehicle selection
Discount will not be available for all vehicles. For a large family, cars worth no more than 1 million rubles are available. The authorities plan to increase the limit to 1,5 million rubles.
“Also, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Federation introduced a restriction according to which cars sold under the state program must be produced in Our Country,” says Ryzhuk. “Therefore, the list of vehicles under the program has been significantly reduced.
Another requirement for the vehicle is that its mass should not exceed 3,5 tons. Also, a car for a large family should be new – 2019-2020 of release. These cars should not be registered with the traffic police.
3 step. Bank selection
To apply for a car loan, parents with many children need to choose a bank in which they are going to draw up documents. There they can offer their conditions. Among the required almost always the following:
- positive credit history;
- age of 65 years;
- having a regular source of income.
The lending rate should not exceed 16%, the term is 3 years.
4 step. Collection of documents
In the car dealership or bank participating in the program, where you will apply for the benefit, you will need to collect some documents. Their list will almost certainly include:
- passport;
- driver’s license;
- INN;
- birth certificates of children;
- certificate from work, where you must have already worked for at least 3 months, work book;
- SnilS.
You may have to provide something else – it depends on the conditions that the buyer has put forward in a particular organization.
5 step. Waiting for a decision
The study of the application usually lasts from two weeks to a month. After its approval, parents with many children will again have to go to a car dealership or a bank, where they will be handed an agreement in which they will need to sign.
Then you will need to wait until the funds from the bank are transferred to the seller of the car, get the car and documents for it, and register it with the traffic police. This process for parents with many children is not something special, everything happens according to the standard scheme. The final touch will be the transfer of documents for a new car to the bank where you got the loan.

Our interlocutor recalls that residents of different parts of Our Country have their own advantages. So, in St. Petersburg, a large family can receive social support in the form of expenses for the provision of a passenger minibus.
– True, such parents must raise 7 or more minor children. Own or under guardianship in the family for at least three years. This also includes adopted children, – explains the lawyer.
And in Tula, people who are raising 7 minor children and even more are ready to allocate 590 thousand rubles for the purchase of a minibus. The main thing is to live in the Tula region for at least 10 years.
It is possible that new options will appear soon. Yes, according to Irina Ryzhuk, a draft law has been submitted to the State Duma, according to which it is proposed to provide families with a fifth child with domestic cars.
