Sight is one of the basic senses. Vision is essential for proper functioning, so it is very important to take care of your eyes at any age. As soon as we notice that something is wrong with our vision, we should without hesitation consult an ophthalmologist.
In popular opinion, there are many theories about proper eye hygiene and eye protection methods. However, not all of them are true. We checked what is worth believing in to have healthy eyes, and what can be put into fairy tales.
With 1.
Blueberry improves eyesight.Truth. This fruit has a regenerative effect on the eyesight. It contains beneficial anthocyanins that improve the quality of eyesight and eliminate eye fatigue. Therefore, it is especially recommended to introduce blueberries to the diet of drivers, pilots and people who spend a lot of time in front of the computer.
With 2.
Carrot improves eyesight and delays the aging process of the eyes.Truth. Carrots contain beta-carotene, which is converted in the human body into a compound involved in the vision process. In addition, carrots are a source of vitamin A, which has protective properties, preventing dry conjunctiva and night blindness.
With 3.
Sunglasses always protect the eyes from the harmful effects of UV radiation.Falsehood. Not all sunglasses available on the market have the appropriate filters. Those to buy in supermarkets and bazaars, costing a few or a dozen zlotys, can only be used as a decorative element. What’s worse, their use can even spoil our eyes. It is therefore worth going shopping, e.g. to an optical shop and asking the seller for the appropriate certificate confirming the presence of sunscreens.

Don’t wear glasses, if you have a small vision defect, it will recede on its own.Falsehood. This belief has been around for a long time and is wrong by design. The point is that without correcting vision with spectacle lenses, we force the eye to exercise. Similarly, it should follow that people who do not wear glasses on a daily basis should put them on for a while to force the eye to work. Complete nonsense.
With 5.
Contact lenses – yes, but not for children.Falsehood. The belief that children cannot use contact lenses because they inhibit the development of the eyeball is wrong. There are no health contraindications to the use of contact lenses in children. Parents should only pay attention to their correct putting on, use and hygiene procedures.
With 6.
Reading in bad light damages your eyesight.Falsehood. The lack of adequate light makes it difficult for the eyes to focus on the text and they get tired quickly. This does not mean that they are damaged. Just give them a rest, apply some eye drops and everything will be back to normal. In the past, people worked and read by candlelight or the dim light of oil lamps, and their eyes were not spoiled.
With 7.
Laser correction surgery can damage your eyesight.Falsehood. Eye surgeries do not carry a particularly high risk of complications. Laser vision correction is minimally invasive and carries risks no greater than other types of operations
