Occasional or chronic, constipation is hardly lost on anyone. Taboo subject, it is embarrassing and can cause significant pain.

To fight against constipation, there are many drugs on the market but one can also find natural remedies which are beneficial.

PasseportSanté invites you to learn more about natural herbal constipation treatments.

Buckthorn for occasional constipation

Buckthorn grows in the humid forests of Europe. It is the dried bark of buckthorn (frangula alnus) which is used to combat constipation. Thus, the intestinal muscle tissues are stimulated to promote the arrival of stool in the colon. Buckthorn also hydrates dry stools in the colon, which promotes their expulsion.

Trick : you need 5 g of buckthorn for 200 ml of water. Put the water and buckthorn in a saucepan and bring to a boil. When the water is boiling, keep the mixture for ten minutes. Leave this infusion off the heat for about 2 hours. Drink a cup before each meal.

Buckthorn is a natural laxative. It is not indicated in children. Its treatment in adults should not exceed 10 days.

Plants have active ingredients which, if badly dosed, can be harmful to the body. There are also risks of allergy. Do not hesitate to go to a health professional, in this case a herbalist before committing to a natural treatment.
