Basil essential oil

Basil, well known for its strong smell and delicately spicy taste, was already considered by Aristotle to be a “royal plant”. It can be used in different forms depending on the desired effect: as an infusion, as a spray, by applying basil leaves locally or in a drinkable solution… To make the essential oil of basil, we use the leaves and flowers which are steam distilled1. The essential oil of basil is indicated in the treatment of anxiety or nervous insomnia. To relieve sleep problems, basil essential oil can be used as a diffusion in a room or in massage, diluted in a vegetable oil. The massage will also calm muscle or digestive spasms as well as anxiety. The diffusion of basil essential oil, for its part, will refresh the atmosphere of the bedroom and soothe cerebral fatigue. Its multiple virtues make it an ally of choice to regain your calm before falling asleep.2.

Grown in both the southern hemisphere and the northern hemisphere, basil is native to Asia. There are over 150 varieties of basil listed around the world3.

Important

Basil essential oil should not be used during pregnancy, especially during the first 3 months.

It is also irritating to sensitive skin. Remember to test it on a small area of ​​skin before proceeding with a more extensive massage.
