10 things we do wrong in the kitchen

They are in every home – they have always been. And they still conceal a lot of secrets. But maybe you are a real master and have always known about these tricks?

Garlic press

The most annoying thing about garlic is the process of peeling it off. She sticks to the teeth, does not want to come off, and generally behaves extremely unfriendly. There is a way out – not to peel the garlic at all. You just need to cut off the hard tip. Then we put the clove in the garlic press, and he does everything for you.

Niche under the oven

We store pans, spare trays and God knows what else there. And more often this space is completely empty. In vain. Manufacturers intended this niche in order to place freshly prepared food there – during cooking, heat accumulates there, and food cools more slowly.

Blender

How do you make smoothies, if at all? Usually we put everything into the blender bowl at once, close the lid and press the button. But it is correct to put the ingredients in a certain order: first, soft or even liquid, then seeds, then herbs, fruits, vegetables and ice or other solids. If the bottom layer is hard ingredients, it will be more difficult for knives to cope with grinding food into a single mass.

Spaghetti spoon

The hole in the middle of the spoon is there for you to measure out the perfect portion of the pasta. Of course, in the case of fusilli or farfalle, this trick will not work, but any long pasta – spaghetti, cappellini, bucatini – is best measured with this spoon. The fact is that about 80 grams of pasta is placed in the hole. This is considered the reference serving size per person.

Filter for coffee

Usually disposable paper filters stick out from the top. It looks untidy. But if you look closely, you will see perforated edges on the filter. If the filter is folded exactly over them, it will perfectly fit into any size of the coffee maker.

Stewpot

Or a ladle, saucepan, long-handled frying pan that has a hole in it. It is also there for a reason. The hole is designed to insert a wooden spoon into it, with which you stir the sauce or food.

Refrigerator

Do you know what should be kept at eye level? From the point of view of the greatest preservation of products, this is milk and its derivatives. But there is a little trick to keep you healthy. The middle shelf is where you want to store healthy snacks like cucumbers, carrots, and other goodies.

Wood planks

Experts say they are much healthier than plastic ones. First, there is too much plastic around. Secondly, the tree has bactericidal properties, so the boards disinfect themselves slightly. The main thing is to take proper care of them: wash with hot water, dry in an upright position, remove stains with lemon juice and salt, never put them in the dishwasher.

Hole in the cutting board

Some have it – they usually use it to hang the board on a hook. But it’s actually meant to gently pour chopped vegetables into a bowl or pan. This way, the pieces don’t fly around and you don’t have to pick up chopped carrots all over the kitchen.

Big knives

Cutting anything with a large knife neatly, precisely and thinly takes practice, skill, and a steady hand. Yes, but no. You still need to hold the knife correctly. How do we usually do it? The index finger is on top of the blade, the rest are closed on the handle. And this is wrong. The thumb should be on top of the blade, and the index finger should be on the side, it guides the movement. Try it – they will immediately suspect you as a chef.
