Xitrocin for bacterial infections. Composition and dosage

Xitrocin is a systemic antibacterial drug. Beta-lactam antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. The preparation is indicated in the treatment of infections such as: tonsillitis, acute sinusitis, bronchitis or pneumonia. The drug in the form of tablets is available on prescription.

Indications for the use of Xitrocin

Xitrocin is indicated for the treatment of the following infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to roxithromycin:

  1. tonsillitis (angina) caused by streptococci,
  2. acute sinusitis when beta-lactam antibiotics cannot be used,
  3. exacerbation of chronic bronchitis,
  4. community acquired pneumonia in patients without risk factors and who are not in a severe clinical condition and if there are no symptoms suggesting pneumococcal infection (in the case of suspected atypical pneumonia, use of the drug is indicated, regardless of the severity of symptoms),
  5. skin and subcutaneous tissue infections with a mild course,
  6. non-gonococcal infection of the genital organs caused by chlamydia or ureaplasmas.

Xitrocin and contraindications

Contraindications to the use of Xitrocin are:

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of Xitrocin or other macrolide antibiotics.
  2. During treatment with roxithromycin, any of the following preparations are contraindicated: astemizole, cisapride, pimozide, terfenadine, ergot alkaloids (ergotamine or dihydroergotamine).

Dosage

  1. Adults and children after 15 years of age: the usual dose is 150 mg twice a day.
  2. Children up to 15 years of age: the recommended dose is 5-8 mg / kg body weight daily, divided into 2 doses. Most often it is used in children weighing 12-23 kg: 50 mg every 12 hours, and in children weighing 24-40 kg: 100 mg every 12 hours. Do not exceed the adult dose. Do not use for more than 10 days.

Xitrocin is not recommended for people with hepatic insufficiency; However, if the doctor considers the use of the preparation necessary, then he or she will recommend an appropriate dose reduction and regular monitoring of liver function parameters. Xitrocin is for oral use. The tablets should be taken half an hour before a meal.

Xitrocin – warnings

  1. Xitrocin may cause side effects such as dizziness and confusion, which may impair the ability to drive vehicles and use machines / machines.
  2. Patients with galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency or malabsorption of glucose-galactose should not use this preparation because it contains lactose.
  3. The preparation is not recommended for people with hepatic insufficiency. However, if it is necessary, the doctor will order an appropriate reduction of the dose used and regular monitoring of the parameters.
  4. It should be monitored for new symptoms of infections during treatment with Xitrocin.
  5. Xitrocin can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding if the doctor deems it absolutely necessary.
  6. Caution should be exercised as treatment with macrolide antibiotics may prolong the QT interval on the ECG and the risk of arrhythmias, including torsades de pointes.
