To drink or not drink wine during pregnancy?

When doctors determine the early stage of pregnancy in their patient, the first thing they do is instruct her what food and drinks can be consumed in the future and, most importantly, what the expectant mother should not.

Alcohol is on the list of prohibitions. However, it is not for nothing that they say – how many doctors, so many diagnoses. A fairly large number of experts believe that alcohol in small quantities is not so harmful, and sometimes wine drunk during pregnancy can be beneficial.

The World Health Organization (WHO) answers the question about the admissibility of alcohol intake for expectant and nursing mothers with the maximum categorization – it is impossible. She urges all mothers not to consume any alcohol during the entire period of gestation. However, there is another, less harsh opinion.

It is also expressed by a very authoritative organization – the UK Ministry of Health. It fully admits and even encourages women to drink up to two glasses of wine a week. What is being presented as evidence?

WHO draws attention to the fact that in any very good wine there is ethanol. And this substance is extremely harmful to any organism, especially during the development of internal organs in it.

If we turn to the opinion of British scientists, then they have done a certain job, studying the question of whether wine is possible during pregnancy, and came to some encouraging conclusions. They believe that drinking a small amount of wine is good for the development of the fetus.

In their opinion, which was confirmed by a sufficient number of observations, high quality red wine increases hemoglobin in the blood. This has a beneficial effect on increasing appetite, which is often not the case with toxicosis, with which red wine or Cahors also fights to the best of their ability. Even scientists from England found that children of mothers drinking a small dose of wine were ahead of their peers from teetotal families in development.

Whether or not to drink red wine during pregnancy is up to each woman individually. If so, then in no case should you drink it until the 17th week. And in any case, use no more than 100 ml at a time.
