Why are clinical trials conducted?
Clinical trials are the only way to evaluate the effectiveness of a new drug in a controlled and maximally safe way for participants, identify its side effects, and new indications for use. Only after completing a long process of studying the effectiveness and safety of a drug, of which clinical trials are part, can the drug be sold to you in a pharmacy or prescribed in a hospital. The main purpose of conducting a clinical trial is to protect the patient from a useless or dangerous drug.
