Week 15 of pregnancy – 17 WA

Baby side

Our baby is about 14 centimeters from head to tailbone and weighs almost 200 grams.

Baby’s development during week 15 of pregnancy

The fetus is growing patiently. At the same time, the placenta develops. He is about the size of the baby. The fetus draws from it the nutrients and oxygen carried by the maternal blood. It is essential for its growth and the two are connected by the umbilical cord. The placenta also acts as a protective barrier. It filters bacteria, although some infectious agents (such as cytomegalovirus, or others responsible for listeriosis,Toxoplasmosis, rubella…) Can cross it or as a result of placental lesions.

Week 14 pregnant woman side

Our uterus is about 17 centimeters in height. As for our breasts, stretched since the beginning of pregnancy, they begin to prepare for lactation under the influence of hormones. Montgomery tubercles (small grains scattered on the areolas of the breasts) are more visible, the areolas are darker and the small veins are more irrigated, which makes them sometimes visible on the surface. On the scale side, we should have taken, ideally, between 2 and 3 kg. We do not hesitate to monitor and control our weight gain by following the weight curve of our pregnancy.

Now is the time to opt for maternity clothes: our belly needs room and our breasts need support. But beware, it is possible that before the end of the pregnancy, we still change the size of clothes and underwear.

Your exams from the 14th week of pregnancy

We make an appointment for our second prenatal consultation. Weight gain, blood pressure measurement, uterine measurement, auscultation of the fetal heartbeat, sometimes vaginal examination… so many examinations performed during prenatal visits. Following the screening result for Down’s syndrome, it may have been decided to undergo an amniocentesis. In this case, now is the time to resort to it.
