How to deal with late blight on tomatoes and potatoes?

– Unlike humans, plants cannot be cured. It remains to take into account the mistakes, draw conclusions and improve – next year in June to spray tomatoes and potatoes from the disease. Remove tops and other plant debris away. And next year, plant another crop in this garden that is not prone to phytophthora.

Why did the carrots crack in the garden?

– There are no simple answers to difficult questions. Cracked carrots can have several reasons – insufficient watering, heavy soil. Or maybe this is an early variety that had to be dug back in July, but it was kept in the beds until August, and the carrots were overripe. You need to learn to feel the plant, what it lacks – potash fertilizers, sunlight or space, when it grows too thick for you.

How to process greens so that there are no holes on the leaves?

– Greens absolutely cannot be processed and watered with toxins: you will eat it later. Always look at the instructions on the package – for which crops the drug is suitable, for which not. Most likely, your greens were eaten by snails or slugs. It is better to collect them by hand or put a jar of water on the garden bed, soon the parasites will creep up to it, and it will be easy for you to get rid of them.

We planted the onion with a set, is it time to dig it up?

– If healthy onions are lodged, wait a little more until they turn slightly yellow and you can harvest. Do not be afraid to overexpose – the bow is not scary. The same is parsley, Jerusalem artichoke, carrots – in general, it can be stored in the ground all winter, as in a cellar, you just need to cut off the dead tops and cover them with insulation on top. In winter, it happens that I dig up the snow and bring fresh parsley to the table.

Garden strawberries bore fruit. How to prepare the bushes for the coming winter?

– You should never cut anything off in the garden, you need to work carefully – either cut off with a pruner, or pluck with handles, or break off. Otherwise, the planting will then grow poorly. There is no need to pull a mustache on a garden strawberry, or a whip on a cucumber, or peas. Nonwovens are considered the best covering materials, but they are not cheap. If you cover it with straw, mice may come. And sawdust can rot, this reduces the amount of nitrogen, which our soils are already poor in. Plants that lack nitrogen are pale and have small leaves.

Why are the apples on the apple tree covered with dark spots?

– This scab is a fungal disease. Scab usually affects older varieties of apple trees. Modern, recently bred by breeders, are resistant to diseases, but it is better to buy such apple trees in nurseries in order to avoid deception. There are, of course, old, worthy varieties – Antonovka, Shtrifel, Melba. But every year new ones appear. People change old brands of cars for modern ones – so gradually the garden needs to be renewed. Or spray it with fungicides for prophylaxis.

In no case should you eat such apples. On them, in fact, mushrooms grow, piercing the fruit through and through with mycelium. And mushrooms can release toxins. Scientists have not yet figured out how plant poisons can affect health, therefore, just in case, they advise not to cut off rotten or spotted fruits, but throw them away.

Why this year many raspberry bushes are producing abundant growth, but not berries?

– Abundant growth on raspberries is not always good. It usually occurs on the shoots of the second year of planting. In our country, 90% of summer residents do not take care of raspberries in any way – they stuck a bush into the ground, and let them grow. At the same time, they want to receive berries in buckets. But in this case, you need to take care of the raspberry tree – cut off the wild growth, leaving 5-7 of the strongest shoots, spray from the raspberry fly, feed, pinch the lateral shoots at a level of 1,5 meters above the ground. Excess shoots must be cut or separated. But it is better not to carry out work inside the bush – do not interfere with the plant to bloom and bear fruit.
