The third month of pregnancy

Three months pregnant: the 9th week

Our embryo changes status again, and now assumes that of a fetus. It measures 5,5cm from head to heels, and weighs approximately 10g. His little head begins to round and his features are more and more “human”. His heart beats between 110 and 160 beats per minute. Finally, his sex is clearly differentiated. On our side, our blood volume increases, accelerating our heart rate. Also, one can feel short of breath easily. Get into the habit of walking as much as possible to facilitate blood circulation. Your kidneys are also used more: continue to drink plenty of water, this will prevent you from urinary tract infections.

Three months pregnant: the 10th week

The fetus has gained 2 cm since last week, and 8 g, which brings it to 18 g. He is now making frank movements: he turns his head and moves his arms and legs. Hair bulbs, which are the source of body hair and hair, begin to form. On our side, the urges to urinate become less frequent: the uterus begins to rise in the abdominal cavity, which compresses our bladder less. Morning sickness will also decrease.

Three months pregnant: the 11th week

That’s it, the first bones of the fetus have appeared! We can see those of the basin and the coasts emerging. His nostrils are now open. Its intestine is also so long that it mixes with the umbilical cord! At this stage, 90% of the fetus’ weight – it now weighs 28g – is due to water. It reaches the size of 8,5 cm from head to heels. It is thanks to the umbilical cord that the fetus draws nourishment and oxygen which help it to develop. Your future baby also emits wastes rejected by his body, which are then sent to the placenta, then into the maternal circulation. Quite a natural process that you do not notice at all!

12 weeks pregnant: how tall is baby?

From one week to the next, your fetus’ weight gain is impressive: it now weighs 45 g and measures 10 cm from head to heels! If it’s a boy, the penis and prostate are already formed. The placenta is also completely completing its formation. For your part, be sure to respect a strictly healthy diet, otherwise you will get anemia! Remember that your fetus gets vitamins and minerals from your blood!

Three months pregnant: the 13th week

The joints of your fetus are now functional: on the ultrasound, you can see their little fingers fold up inside the hand! Likewise, his mouth can open and close, swallowing some amniotic fluid, and the first sucking movements appear. For the fetus, the flavor of the amniotic fluid, which varies according to the mother’s diet, is a learning experience! The pigment in the skin, called melanin, begins to form. On your side, your belly is getting bigger every day, just as your uterus is getting bigger.

Your baby is now 12 cm from head to heels, for a head of 3,5 cm in diameter. It weighs 65 grams.

Does the baby move at 3 months of pregnancy?

For a first pregnancy, you rarely feel your baby before the fifth month. Which does not mean that the latter does not move. During the first ultrasound, we can already see the fetus agitated. Baby moves, but given its ridiculous weight, it is impossible for us to feel it. For a second pregnancy on the other hand, we perceive the movements of his baby earlier, around the 17th / 18th week of amenorrhea (in the middle of the 4th month), sometimes a little earlier. Two explanations: on the one hand, we are more attentive and we know how to spot the first signs of movement of our baby. And on the other hand, the uterus is more distended compared to the first pregnancy, which makes the feeling bigger.

Ultrasound, visits and exams at three months of pregnancy

If you haven’t had the first prenatal check-up yet, it’s time to do it. Remember tosend the pregnancy declaration to Social Security. Otherwise, you will not be able to benefit from the allowances to which you are entitled. You will do your first ultrasound around the 10th week of pregnancy (12 weeks of amenorrhea, or WA). If he considers it necessary, know that the doctor can perform an earlier ultrasound (called “dating”). Thanks to this first exam, you will learn in particular the theoretical term of your pregnancy (within 3-4 days), if you are expecting one or more children, and of course if the fetus is doing well.
