The child does not roll over at 4 months on his own from back to stomach: why

When a child does not roll over at 4 months, there is no need to “sound the alarm.” There are objective reasons for this: the baby needs to be given more time.

Why can’t a baby roll over on its own

The existing Russian norms state that by the age of 4 months the baby must make a coup without the help of her mother. Foreigners approach this issue less harshly: when the child’s muscular system is ready, then he will begin to spin.

If the child does not turn over at 4 months, but holds the head well, charging will help.

Attention should be paid to other parameters of age: reaction to external sounds and the ability to hold the head. At this age, babies not only hold their heads, but also do it with pleasure.

There are objective reasons that prevent the baby from performing this exercise:

  • Overweight. A chubby baby looks adorable, but if at this age he weighs more than 6 kg, then he cannot do exercises with a coup.
  • Weak muscles. When the mother does not have enough time for daily massage and exercise of the child, then his muscles are not able to develop enough for difficult exercises.
  • Premature babies learn basic skills later. This is not a pathology, they will catch up with their peers at an older age.
  • Diseases, lack of vitamins, rickets, difficult pregnancy – can affect the development of the baby. Problems, invisible at first, “emerge” when the crumb does not fit into the general norms.
  • A special category of children who skip the “spin” and go straight to the “sitting” stage.

Almost all of these problems require the participation of parents, and an obvious lag also requires a visit to a doctor.

What to do to teach a child to roll over from back to stomach

If the child can hold his head, and also, lying on the belly, bend the back; when he joyfully explores the world in this position, then you can try to teach him “coups”:

  • Give your baby a daily massage. While this is a simple procedure, consisting of stroking and kneading the body.
  • Bend the arms and legs of the baby carefully and in turn. This exercise is designed to strengthen the muscles of your baby.
  • Put the child on the belly to teach him to crawl. In this position, you need to put your hand under your feet and gently push it forward.
  • Help the child to roll over, for this fix one leg, and carefully transfer the other over it until the child rolls over with joint efforts.
  • Captivate your baby with a bright toy. Put it so that he could take possession of it, only turning over on the “belly”.

All these simple techniques will teach the baby the necessary skills.

As a rule, the inability to roll over is not dangerous for the child, but this does not mean that it is not worth paying attention to. Give him some time and you will be pleased with the result.
