The best wet filter vacuum cleaners in 2022
The water filter in a vacuum cleaner is not new, but still causes many people to misunderstand its necessity. The editors of the KP have analyzed the market for high-performance cleaning units in 2022 and offer a rating of the best vacuum cleaners with aquafilters

Many buyers consider the aquafilter to be an unnecessary detail and a marketing ploy. However, when the air sucked in by the vacuum cleaner is passed through the water tank, all the dirt, dust, mold spores, pollen of flowering plants and pathogens remain in it.

Cleaning ends not with the removal of a bag filled with dust from the house, but with the discharge of dirty water into the sewer. Even the highest quality HEPA filter is not able to purify and humidify indoor air as completely as compared to an aqua filter.

In addition, vacuum cleaners with an aquafilter are a real lifesaver for people with asthma or allergies. After cleaning the house, it immediately becomes easier to breathe.

How to choose a vacuum cleaner with an aquafilter

There is a significant difference between a conventional vacuum cleaner and a vacuum cleaner with an aquafilter. Conventional devices are equipped with a dust collector or a container for collecting debris, while models with aquafilter have a tank filled with water through which polluted air is passed. Many models are able not only to suck up small particles of dirt and dust, as conventional vacuum cleaners do, but also to wash the floor and other surfaces, which will undoubtedly please pet owners or allergy sufferers.

The main parameter that you should pay attention to before buying is the type of vacuum cleaner. Traditionally, standard and separator models are distinguished:

  • Separator devices work according to the following principle: getting into the device, dust and debris find themselves in a whirlpool, which creates a centrifuge, and then settle in a tank of water. Additional filters are desirable but not required.
  • Standard devices work according to the following principle: air passes through a tank of water in the form of bubbles, some of the fine dust does not have time to sink in water, therefore, after such an aqua filter, additional air purification is required. Air filters are required, preferably several. For example, coal or paper. HEPA fine filters show high efficiency. In addition to dust retention, they are able to suppress the reproduction of allergens due to special chemical compositions.

What option to choose? If budget cost and a high degree of purification are important to you, which will directly depend on the selected filter, choose standard models. If a high degree of purification, ease of maintenance are important to you and you are ready to spend a rather large amount on a purchase, choose separator models.

Popular questions and answers

The KP answers the most frequent questions of readers Maxim Sokolov, expert of the online hypermarket “VseInstrumenty.ru”

What are the main parameters for vacuum cleaners with an aquafilter?

Five key features to look out for:

1. Suction power.

The higher the suction power of the vacuum cleaner, the more efficient and faster the cleaning will be – a simple truth. However, it is also important to be mindful of the coating you plan to clean. Vacuum cleaners with a suction power of 300-500 W are designed for cleaning linoleum and tiles. With a suction power of 400-700 W for medium pile carpets. 700-900 W for thick pile carpets.

2. Water tank

Capacity, as a rule, is up to 10 liters, but a large displacement is not always needed. For example, for cleaning a small apartment, 2 – 3 liters is suitable, for medium – 4 – 6 liters, and for large ones – from 7.

3. Package contents

In order for the vacuum cleaner to clean almost any surface, a variety of nozzles are added to it. This allows you to cope with cleaning not only the floor, but also narrow openings or even windows. Usually there are three or five types of nozzles in the set. More is not needed. In the work, only one is most often used, or less often two.

4. Maneuverability

Vacuum cleaners with an aquafilter weigh a lot – about 10 kg. Light models up to 7 kg are highly maneuverable, and heavy ones – from 7 kg, are less maneuverable. You can check how convenient the device is for moving directly in the store – the sellers do not refuse this request.

The wheels of the vacuum cleaner also affect its maneuverability. They can be located on the bottom or on the sides of the case. The first option is preferable, since the vacuum cleaner will be able to move in different directions.

Pay attention to the material from which the wheels are made. So, plastic wheels can scratch linoleum or parquet flooring, so models with rubberized wheels are preferred.

5. Noise level

Most often, vacuum cleaners have a noise level of 70 dB to 60 dB – these are optimal indicators for such devices. However, if they are exceeded, there is nothing critically terrible in this. Cleaning the premises takes an average of 15-20 minutes, during which time the noise will not be able to have a strong impact on the user.

What are the main pros and cons of aquafilters?

Pros:

• The air is cleaner because water or filters trap dust particles;

• Easy emptying – less mess;

• Significant savings on garbage bags;

• Efficient removal of allergens from the air;

Additional air humidification during cleaning.

Cons:

• More expensive than conventional vacuum cleaners;

•Heavy, which affects maneuverability.

What is the difference between a standard water filter and a separator?

The only difference is the need for post-treatment before the air is released back into the room. Separator devices in this regard show themselves better, since dust and debris almost completely settle in the water tank, and in standard models additional cleaning is required, since not all dust sinks in water. Therefore, standard aquafilters often use a variety of filters for additional purification. Although there are separator-type models with filtration.

Do I need a HEPA filter if I have an aquafilter?

It is not required, although its presence will not be superfluous. The HEPA filter keeps dust particles out of the air. Such filters are of particular importance for allergy sufferers and asthmatics, as they purify the air of dust, which may contain allergens.
