Synergology
What is synergology?
Synergology allows individuals to decode others, to better interpret their interlocutors and to adapt their communication. According to its creators, it also allows us to explore our own gray areas through the interpretation of our unconscious non-verbal language. To achieve this, it would suffice to analyze a dozen signs spotted during the exchange and to synthesize them. The analysis of just one of these signs is never recommended by followers of the discipline.
Still according to the official synergology website, its subject ” is to go up the path towards the concepts starting from logical chains of bodily items which allied with each other make it possible to find the mental attitude by the rational way, to redo the links that the brain naturally makes without even knowing it. ‘to be ».
Some examples to decode
Itchy nose. According to the corpus, this sign evokes an intense emotion relating to anger, discomfort, stress, a feeling of embarrassment …
Playing with her hair. Contrary to popular belief, playing with your hair would not be indicative of a desire to seduce. According to the corpus, it would rather reflect reflection.
The handshake. If it turns out to be too soft, we suspect a lack of self-confidence, difficulties in asserting, a certain disinterest or possible depression. If, on the contrary, it is too firm, we may think of a need to dominate others or a certain annoyance.
The lie. According to author Annabelle Boyer, the liar would be an eye-in-the-eye specialist. We are therefore far from the robot portrait of the liar with his shifty eyes … The liar would fix his eyes more to try to identify whether he is believed or not. He blinks less, controls his gestures more (closing his mouth at the end of sentences). Still according to the same author, many police officers, judges, psychologists and social workers have received training in synergology.
Synergology Criticisms
In 2015, Patrick Lagacé published a series of very critical works on synergology, this approach which claims to be able to interpret the gestures of others. For him, there is no doubt, the discipline is only a pseudoscience of the decoding of the non-verbal.
In 2008, the researcher Ladellier went even further: synergology would play “ on the misuse of academic codes and the ignorance of them by the target audiences ” for ” capture a legitimacy that can then be cashed in publishing, professional training, coaching, or even worse, recruitment ».
To date, there is no specialized journal, no experimental protocol, no research work that can confirm that synergology has been the subject of genuine scientific research. On the other hand, there are many communication techniques, books, sites, disciples, programs …
Allard’s team in 2008 called it “pseudoscience” while Deraedt’s in 2014 used the word “scam”. However, it is used by many organizations such as judges of the Court of Quebec, the Barreau du Québec, SPVM police officers, etc.
Despite its popularity, the Body Lexicon of Synergology is an immense work whose fidelity and validity have never been demonstrated to this day. Rather than being peer reviewed in due form as scientists do, this validation is carried out internally by other “synergologists”, that is to say advocates of synergology who have obtained the certification of “synergologist” from other “synergologists”, which obviously includes Turchet.
