Symptoms, people at risk and risk factors for uveitis

Symptoms of the disease

Uveitis can affect only one eye or both.

The main symptoms of this infection are:

  • Red eye;
  • Eye pain;
  • Vision trouble ;
  • Tears;
  • Photosensitivity (= sensitivity to light);
  • Spots in the field of vision: we speak of floaters;
  • Decreased vision.

People at risk

There would be a predisposition genetics in the onset of uveitis.

Risk factors

The risk factors are various. Having an infection such as toxoplasmosis, tuberculosis, herpes, or syphilis is one of them. The risk of developing uveitis is also higher when one has an autoimmune disease or inflammation such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.
