Symfaxin ER – a drug for depression and anxiety disorders

Treatment of depression, in addition to the support of a psychologist, also requires pharmacological treatment. One of the drugs used in the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders is Symfaxin. It is a preparation containing venlafaxine, a substance popular in many drugs with a similar effect.

Symfaxin – co to?

Symfaxin is a drug in the form of prolonged-release capsules. It is used in psychiatry to treat diseases of the central nervous system. Symfaxin has antidepressant and anxiolytic effects. The indications for taking the drug are various types of depression, social phobia, as well as general anxiety disorders, including long-term disorders. The composition of Symfaxin is based on the active substance, which is venlafaxine. It is intended for patients over 18 years of age.

Symfaxin – dosage

Symfaxin is a drug intended for oral use. The dose and frequency of taking the drug is determined by the doctor. It is recommended that you take the Symfaxin tablets with a meal, swallowed them whole with water or another liquid. The package leaflet suggests taking it at the same time each day, once a day – in the morning or in the evening. In elderly patients, it is recommended to start therapy with the lowest dose – Symfaxin 37,5.

Discontinuation of Symfaxin must be a process. Doses should be truncated over a week to two weeks before final discharge. Do not stop taking your medicine suddenly as this can cause a number of adverse reactions.

Remember that the drug Symfaxin has been prescribed by a doctor for a specific person struggling with a given disease. It should therefore not be used for other conditions or made available to third parties.

Symfaxin – contraindications

Situations that should lead to discontinuation of treatment with Symfaxin are:

  1. hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of the excipients of the drug,
  2. disorders in the functioning of the liver or kidneys,
  3. glaucoma,
  4. epilepsy,
  5. diabetes,
  6. pregnancy,
  7. breast-feeding,
  8. taking other drugs affecting the central nervous system (antidepressants, hypnotics, sedatives, anticonvulsants), antifungal and anticoagulants, as well as cimetidine,
  9. taking over-the-counter medications.

Symdaxin – side effects

Side effects of Symfaxin include:

  1. somnolence,
  2. headaches and dizziness,
  3. trembling,
  4. greater nervous tension,
  5. pupil dilation and visual disturbances
  6. urge to urinate
  7. sweating,
  8. vasodilation
  9. higher blood cholesterol,
  10. mucosal bleeding
  11. petechiae,
  12. fatigue,
  13. losing weight.

Symfaxin – remarks

Treatment with Symfaxin is effective when the patient follows the instructions of the doctor who prescribed the drug. Any side effects should be consulted with him. Before using Symfaxin, it is recommended to read the package leaflet.

Symfaxin should be stored in a dry place, out of the reach of children, in a tightly closed container. The drug cannot be used after its expiry date.

Symfaxin – cena

The drug is available in three variants in terms of the active substance content. You can get Symfaxin 150 mg, Symfaxin 75 mg and Symfaxin 37,5 mg by prescription in pharmacies. The price of the drug varies from PLN 5 to PLN 20 depending on the reimbursement. Symfaxin substitutes are Efectin ER, Faxigen XL or Venlectine.
