Everyone has their own pleasures, small and big. Someone is crazy about sweets and will never miss the opportunity to please themselves with an exquisite delicacy. Someone dreams of traveling and feels like a born discoverer. We offer to combine these two pleasures in one and try traditional desserts from different countries. Right now we are going on an exciting sweet journey.

Divinely delicious cake

“Tarta de Santiago” is the most popular pie in Galicia and throughout Spain, named after the patron saint of the country. According to legend, it was first baked in 1577 at the University of Santiago in honor of teachers who received a degree. His trademark remains the sugar cross-blade-the emblem of the Order of St. James.

For the pie, you will need:

  • almond flour-250 g
  • sugar-250 g
  • large eggs — 4 pcs.
  • cinnamon — 2 tsp.
  • lemon zest — to taste
  • butter and flour for preparing the mold
  • powdered sugar for decoration

You can prepare almond flour yourself. To do this, you need to blanch the raw almonds a little, peel and grind them in a coffee grinder or combine.

In a bowl, combine the almond flour, cinnamon, sugar and lemon zest, mix. Beat the eggs into the same place and knead a homogeneous dough. Grease the cake pan with butter and sprinkle its bottom and walls with flour. Pour the dough into the mold, smooth the top with a spatula and send it to the oven, preheated to 180 °C. Bake the pie for 30-35 minutes, then take it out, let it cool and remove it from the mold.

To make the cake really traditional, cut out the cross of the Order of St. James from the paper, put it in the center and sprinkle the cake with powdered sugar through a sieve. Carefully remove the paper cross and cut the pie into portions.

Delicious Japanese surprise

The Japanese can make absolutely everything from rice, including the famous mochi cakes. For their preparation, a special type of mochigome rice is used. It is pounded to the state of flour and moistened, as a result of which it acquires sweet notes. Mochi with different fillings and without is the main New Year’s dessert in Japan.

Ingredients for cakes:

  • round rice — 100 g
  • sugar — 200 g
  • water — 300 ml
  • corn flour — 100 g
  • food dyes

We wash and dry the rice, thoroughly grind it in a coffee grinder. Combine rice flour with sugar in a saucepan, pour water and cook over low heat until a thick sticky mass is obtained. We spread it on the table, roll it in corn flour, slightly crumble it. We divide the dough into several parts to tint it with food dyes. Now we make koloboks the size of a ping-pong ball out of the dough. Inside you can put a whole strawberry, a slice of banana, a square of chocolate or a spoonful of thick jam. Now you need the mochi to completely freeze in the refrigerator.

Pillow for sweet dreams

In Argentina, pastelitos are especially popular. These are sweet pies, most often with sweet potato marmalade inside, which are deep-fried. However, the filling can be anything. According to custom, they are prepared everywhere for one of the main holidays — the Day of the Nation of Argentina. And they wash down a colorful delicacy with hot chocolate.

Ingredients:

  • puff pastry-1 layer
  • sugar — 1 cup
  • cinnamon — 2 tbsp. l.
  • jam or chocolate-nut paste for filling

We roll out a layer of puff pastry, cut it into squares, roll it in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon, divide it in half. Spread 1 tsp of jam or pasta on a part of the squares, close with the remaining squares. We pinch the edges, put the corners together to make something like pillows, fry the pies in a large amount of oil. Before serving, sprinkle the pastelitos with powdered sugar.

Banana-caramel bliss

In addition to crumble and Christmas pudding, the British are proud of their other dessert — banoffi pie.  Banana and soft caramel toffee — what could be tastier? Hence, in fact, the name. The birthplace of the pie is considered to be West Essex, more precisely, a restaurant called “The Hungry Monk”. It was there that it was served for the first time in 1972. You can prepare a quick and simple version of this pie.

To do this, take the following ingredients:

  • butter-125 g
  • sugar — 25 g
  • chicken egg — 1 pc.
  • flour-250 g
  • bananas — 5 pcs.
  • boiled condensed milk 0.5 cans
  • cream 35 % – 400 ml
  • powdered sugar — 1 tbsp. l.
  • instant coffee — 1 tsp.
  • cocoa for decoration

We cut the frozen butter into cubes and quickly grind it into a crumb with sugar, egg and sifted flour. We do not knead the dough — we should get a paste, which we will put in the refrigerator for half an hour. Next, we tamp the cooled mass into a mold with sides and bake for 30 minutes at 180 °C. Thickly lubricate the base with boiled condensed milk, spread the bananas, cut into longitudinal plates. Whisk the cream with powdered sugar and instant coffee. Decorate with a lush cap of bannofi pie cream, lightly sprinkle with cocoa — and you can serve the pie to the guests!
