Strawberry Crown: variety description

The Korona strawberry, bred by Dutch breeders back in the 70s of the last century, has long become a favorite of domestic gardeners. This variety has undeniable advantages such as good yield and excellent berry taste. But before growing such a garden strawberry, it is worth learning about its shortcomings.

Characteristics of the strawberry “Crown”: description and photo

This variety is medium early, with a long fruiting period. The bushes of the plant are of medium height and a small number of tendrils. The flower stalks of the crop are quite strong and able to support the weight of the fruit during ripening.

Strawberry “Crown” is one of the most popular varieties among gardeners

The berries are characterized by increased juiciness. This advantage is at the same time a disadvantage, because such strawberries are not suitable for freezing. But for making jam or eating fresh, it is considered ideal.

Strawberry fruits are rather large, reaching a mass of 15-30 g. Heart-shaped, regular shape. The color is deep red, with a darkish shade and glossy sheen. The pulp is juicy and fleshy, without voids. The taste is incredibly sweet and pleasant, with a pronounced strawberry aroma.

Description of the advantages and disadvantages of the “Crown” strawberry variety

The main advantage of this variety is the incredible sweet taste of the berries. They have increased juiciness and meatiness, without any voids in the middle. In addition, the plant is quite unpretentious in care, it tolerates sudden changes in temperature and takes root well in regions with a cold climate. The variety is frost-resistant and tolerates temperatures as low as –22 ° C without any shelter. Also, garden strawberries are practically immune to powdery mildew.

Strawberry “Crown” has a long fruiting period and high yield rates. With proper care, up to a kilogram of berries can be harvested from one bush.

But, despite all the advantages, this variety has several disadvantages. First of all, it is a strong predisposition to diseases of the root system. Berries of the variety do not tolerate transportation well and are highly deformed during transportation, therefore strawberries are not recommended to be grown for sale.

Strawberry “Crown” will be the best choice for those gardeners who grow crops for their needs. This variety gives high yields over a long period. In this case, the plant requires a minimum of attention.
