Sophie la girafe, taking care of mom and baby!

Sophie la girafe, the opinion of mothers

Marjorie Reschmann, 36, and Elliot, 8 months, from Saint-Avold (57)

What was your first reaction when you found out that you had won a Sophie la Girafe weekend?

At first, I thought it was spam (an email advertisement). But I quickly understood my mistake and I was delighted: a Mother’s Day weekend with activities for mom and baby is a great gift!

Why did you choose the massage workshop?

I chose this workshop because I often give Elliot massages at home after bathing. The little one appreciates the skin to skin contact. But I am used to massaging it intuitively because I only learned a few gestures in the maternity ward… I wanted to receive professional advice.

Which ones have you received?

The workshop facilitator showed us techniques to reproduce to massage baby, zone after zone, such as palpating the limbs on the left side first, the side of the heart, or performing circular massages around the navel by following the needles. of a watch… I had already watched tutorials on the web, but seeing the demonstration firsthand is more effective.

Did Elliot enjoy the massage?

Yes, I think he liked it, especially on the arms and hands. I felt he loved it because he immediately relaxed his arms and accompanied my movements. And then he babbled a lot. That means he was happy.

Have you tried other activities?

Yes, kangatraining. It is a kind of fitness gym, invigorating but absolutely not harsh on the joints. We made different movements. Elliot loved flying: he laughed a lot. Then, I installed him in front of me with the baby carrier to continue the gestures and he fell asleep. Me, I really liked it. I would do it well!

What is the outcome of this weekend?

Frankly, the result lives up to the promise. We had unforgettable moments of sharing and discovery.

Do you have an anecdote about Sophie la girafe?

Yes. It was an aunt living near Seattle in the United States who gave the toy to my son. Since then, he never leaves him! We take it with us wherever we go and we take a picture of it, like this weekend in the TGV. I’m even thinking of making a “Sophie’s travels” photo album. It’s a good idea, isn’t it?

Sophie Maubernard, 37, and Rosalie, 12 months old, from Montélimar (26)

What was the program for this VIP weekend?

We took part in several activities, including cooking and embroidery workshops, where the facilitator made a beautiful pink gingham bow for Rosalie’s blanket… We also took lots of pictures with Rosalie, Sophie the giraffe and the dad, who is present today. For us, these are so many beautiful memories.

You wanted to do kangatraining. Did you know this kind of fitness?

Not at all, but I wanted to find out because I found it interesting to do a physical activity with Rosalie. In music, moreover! It’s nice. We did exercises on the floor, with the baby next to them, then others with the child in the baby carrier facing each other. We danced, we walked and we did some work on the perineum. It was great.

And how did Rosalie react?

I think she liked it because she smiled a lot. It must be said that she really likes that I move because I am used to dancing at home, especially rock. But she was also a little hungry. When she found herself against my breast, she held out her mouth… It kept her awake.

Did it make you want to continue this activity?

Yes really. But the host warned us: unlike Germany, there are only a handful of centers in France offering kangatraining sessions. So, I doubt there is one near my house. Pity !

You also took part in the cooking workshop …

Yes. It was great. There I learned a recipe for Breton far and apple and prune compote and Rosalie seemed to appreciate it. I also spoke with the facilitators.

How would you qualify this Sophie la girafe event?

It’s anti-Disneyland for babies! Here, the workshop leaders are competent and provide solid, verified information. I was a bit apprehensive about the noise, but it was actually quite quiet.

Sophie la girafe and you, is that a great story?

Absoutely. One day when I was sad, I found this activity toy on the street. I cleaned it up and kept it hoping it would bring me luck. Three weeks later, my companion agreed – finally – to have a baby. And Rosalie came in and adopted the little giraffe. Today, they are inseparable.

Charlotte Rene-Foglia, 30, and Lina, 12 months, from Metz (57)

How did this weekend go?

Very well. It was immortalized by a photo with the statue of Sophie the giraffe three meters high. I had the chance to chat with chef Christophe Adam (L’Eclair de Génie) who made eclairs with the effigy of Sophie. As for Lina, she had a lot of fun in the workshops and even made new friends in the playground.

What workshops have you taken part in?

In storytelling and cooking workshops. For the first activity, there were children from 9 months to 2 years old in the audience, but the storyteller was able to adapt to each one by telling them a frog story. She managed to capture their attention with gestures and noise.

What did you concoct in the kitchen workshop?

A pesto soup. I never thought I’d make one for Lina, whose taste buds are picky! I am going to redo the recipe because, in pieces, in soup or mash, I can serve it as well to adults as to Lina and to Gianni, her big brother, who is 2 and a half years old.

Why did you choose this activity for you and Lina?

I cook a lot, and with fresh produce, but Lina has difficulty eating. She refuses almost everything. So I am looking for advice. The workshop will help me. Its two facilitators gave me lots of tips for recognizing the best products, creating balanced recipes for babies …

What did you learn, for example?

What oil to buy for my baby, why prefer steaming, which does not degrade the nutritional qualities of fruits, vegetables and fish… The workshop leaders also advised me to have Lina touch the food to that she discovers textures.

What memories will you keep of this day?

A wonderful memory. It was a special Mother’s Day for me and for my little girl. I am convinced that this weekend participated in its awakening!

Finally, a little word about Sophie la girafe?

It’s an iconic toy… even in our home, since Gianni and Lina play together in the bath with Sophie la girafe cubes. A strong bond between brother and sister.
