Scientists have told what the consequences of eating while standing

The best way to eat is while sitting, according to scientists from the University of South Florida.

How often do we eat while standing: late for work, snacking in eateries on the street, at buffets. As it turned out, eating food while standing causes physical stress, thereby dulling the taste buds. That is, the food that we ate while standing will be perceived by us as less tasty and, therefore, we will get less pleasure from such food, as if we were eating the same food while sitting, for example, in an easy chair.

The point is that the vestibular apparatus, which is responsible for body position, balance and spatial orientation, interacts with the sensory system associated with the perception of taste and aroma.

According to experts, gravity forces blood to flow to the lower parts of the body, causing the heart to work faster to pump blood back to the upper body. This activates the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and leads to an increase in the concentration of the stress hormone cortisol.

This chain reaction reduces sensory sensitivity, which is associated with the taste of foods and drinks, as well as the perception of food temperature and total consumption.

Thus, when people eat while standing, they experience discomfort, so food, which usually tastes good, starts to seem unappetizing.

Scientists came to this conclusion as a result of an experiment in which people who tasted food while standing, rated it as less tasty than people who enjoyed food sitting in an easy chair.

Recall that earlier we talked about what food can cause depression, as well as what supposedly unhealthy foods can actually be eaten.
