In nature, there is a great variety of still not fully studied plant species that can be successfully used in the human diet.
Although large-fruited, high-yielding varieties of apple, pear, cherry, currant, raspberry have been bred, unfortunately, they cannot fully provide a person with the necessary biologically active substances. That is why, at the turn of the XX-XXI centuries, interest in non-traditional cultures increased. These plants not only have high medicinal and dietary qualities and can diversify our diet. They also perfectly adapt to the new environment, and besides, they do not suffer from frosty winters and bear fruit stably. All these qualities will be appreciated by amateur gardeners.
The goal of the new academy is to expand the range of agricultural plants and popularize rare species.
In the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation, next to traditional fruit and berry crops, new ones already coexist: actinidia, blueberries, lingonberries, viburnum, honeysuckle, cranberries, multiflora, lemongrass, mountain ash, sea buckthorn, wild rose and bird cherry.
