Pregnancy belt: expert opinion and testimonials

The pregnancy belt

It is no longer presented in Switzerland, Canada, or even in Japan … and yet it is just (and very slowly) starting to make itself known in France. And for good reason: the support belt for future and new mothers bears the brunt of a terrible misconception, one that persists in saying that such an accessory would prevent the muscles from working.

Dr Bernadette De Gasquet, at the origin of the “democratization” of this accessory in France, has spent more than 10 years proving the opposite. Not only does the support belt relieve pain, but it also has more than one trick in its bag (or rather in its scratches!) To satisfy mothers. More and more midwives recommend it, it is not for nothing!

She has it all !

Neither seen nor known, the support belt reposition the pelvis. It also helps all those who wear it to stand up (many have the feeling of having taken a few centimeters!). Suddenly, it is immediately easier to find a good posture.

Another advantage, the belt acts on the deepest muscles of the lower abdomen, making them work nothing well.

Morality: the tone is maintained, the perineum protected and the abs are not ready to disappear! This should reassure more than one mother. According to the various tests carried out, the belt also alleviates back pain.

Mom-to-be, fasten the belt

In general, there are three times when expectant mothers feel the need for support more:

  • at the very beginning of pregnancy, when the hormones panic and the mother-to-be has pain all over;
  • around 6 months of pregnancy ;
  • late pregnancy, when the baby’s weight begins to weigh.

But it depends above all on how mothers feel, there is no pre-established rule. The important thing, for those who adopt the belt, is to put it on properly if they remain standing. In the lying position, it is much rarer, except really in case of great pain.

Pregnancy belt: where to find it?

  • In Kiria points of sale;
  • On the site www.physiomat.com;
  • In pharmacies, on order.

Some gynecologists and obstetricians can prescribe it, but it is not necessarily reimbursed by Social Security. Its price: 29 €

Not to be confused with…

-> The whalebone belt, indicated only in the event of a herniated disc.

-> The scarf, accessory which is used to “bandage” the pelvis after childbirth, but only effective when lying down.

Pregnancy belt: testimonials from satisfied young mothers

«I wore the belt at the end of pregnancy and more than 6 weeks after giving birth. I took it as soon as I stood up and even every time I got up to go to the bathroom at the hospital. I have had two Caesarean sections and the belt has been of great benefit to me. I felt really supported and I also felt the scar was less stretched. »

Sharon, mother of Cienna 3 years and Maceo 1 year (75006, Paris)

« I had an umbilical hernia after my 3rd childbirth. I was in a lot of pain and felt this need to be contained, but I was always told that there was nothing to be done. I didn’t dare stand up anymore, I had the impression that my stomach was going to fall. As soon as I put on the posture belt, belatedly, after 7 months, it did me a lot of good. I had the impression of regaining my strength and growing by 10 cm! I was breathing a lot better too. Today, I put it on when I carry my children and I only regret one thing: not having had it before. »
