Potato variety Kolobok

The Kolobok potato was bred by Russian breeders in 2005. Now it is growing in the territory of the CIS countries. This variety is appreciated for its unpretentiousness and good taste.

This variety of potatoes is ideal for making puree, freeze-dried, potato chips, or for freezing sliced, for example as part of frozen vegetable mixes.

Potatoes “Kolobok” are appreciated by farmers

Here are its main characteristics:

  • The tubers are of the correct round shape, hence the name of the variety.
  • The peel is rough, beige, and may be yellow. The color is uniform, without spots.
  • The average tuber weight is from 100 to 150 g.
  • There are few eyes, they are small, set shallow.
  • The pulp has a pleasant creamy shade.
  • The variety is resistant to many common potato diseases – late blight, nematode, potato crayfish.
  • 10-15 potatoes are formed under each bush, the number of small non-marketable fruits is minimal. Marketability of the variety is within 90%.

This variety belongs to the mid-season. Its ripening period is 80-85 days.

The only drawback of the variety is the overly dense skin. Sometimes it makes it difficult to peel potatoes.

How to grow potatoes “Kolobok”?

If you choose high-quality planting material, then there will be no problems with growing. This variety is unpretentious, it easily adapts to any environment. You can plant potatoes when the top layer of the earth warms up to 8 ° C. Since autumn, the land at the planting site must be dug up and fertilized. In the spring, remove all weeds from the site.

Plant in rows. Place rows from north to south to achieve the desired lighting level. The distance between the rows is 60 cm, between the bushes – 30 cm. Put a handful of ash, 0,5 kg of humus and a potato tuber in each hole. To make things easier, you can use a special potato fertilizer.

To increase the yield, treat the planting material with “Kurzatom”

Carry out the first hilling after the bushes grow up to 20 cm, after 2 weeks carry out the second hilling. Water the furrows on the potatoes. Spray the tops with Colorado potato beetle protection. Remove all weeds in time, lightly loosen the ground around the bushes.
