Planting viburnum in the fall and caring for it in the open field

To grow viburnum and harvest a rich harvest of berries in the fall, follow these tips:

• For viburnum, it is important that water does not stagnate in the soil. Therefore, peat, sandy and podzolic soils are not suitable for planting it.
• Viburnum grows well in partial shade and under the bright sun.
• It is preferable to buy seedlings with closed roots, thanks to this they will not dry out and will take root better.
• Saplings should be no higher than 20 cm.
• Before planting viburnum, compost or other fertilizer with potassium and phosphorus should be added to the ground.
• To improve pollination, it is better to plant several viburnum bushes every 3-4 m.
• The seedling hole should be no more than 50 cm in diameter and 40 cm deep.
• Having put the tree in a hole, it must be covered with earth so that the root collar goes underground no deeper than 5 cm.
• Viburnum can be planted in the spring, when the leaves have not yet appeared, and in the fall, when they have already fallen off.

Viburnum care includes watering, feeding and decorative pruning. Young seedlings should be watered every week. An adult shrub should be watered only when there is a prolonged absence of rain and when it blooms.

Nitrogen fertilizers applied in spring promote the formation of shoots and leaves. Phosphorus fertilizers applied to the soil before the flowering shrub will help grow larger, sweeter berries. And the potash fertilizers introduced in the fall will help the viburnum to winter more easily and will contribute to the growth of a strong root system.

Several times during the summer with pruning shears it is necessary to cut off unnecessary and dry branches. With the help of pruning, you can form a tree or bush from the viburnum as you wish.

In the autumn, viburnum is planted in the same way as in the spring. But the autumn planting has its own characteristics:

• Viburnum planted in autumn takes root better.
• In order for the seedlings to take root well, they must be planted in September.
• Kalina must be planted before the air temperature drops below + 4 ° C, otherwise weak seedlings will die.
• After planting, the near-stem circle should be covered with a thick layer of sawdust, peat or roofing material. This will help keep warm during freezing.
