Pencil makeup: eye shadow pencil, lipstick pencil, corrector pencil

Eyebrow, eye and lip pencils have long been indispensable makeup products. But every year manufacturers are putting on the market more and more cosmetics in pencil packaging … So, recently, corrector pencils, lipstick pencils, shadow pencils have appeared on sale. However, few people realize that the history of the most popular form of production of cosmetics began in October 1794, when the first pencil with a lead placed in a wooden shell was invented … On Pencil Day, Woman’s Day recalls the history of the appearance of cosmetic pencils, and also introduces with modern bestsellers and novelties.

Max Factor Eyeliner & Maybelline Eyebrow Pencil

Cosmetic pencils are very popular. Every year, very interesting new items appear on the market every year, released in exactly this form. And if several centuries ago women used only one single pencil in their makeup – for the eyes, now there are lip pencils, correctors, pencils, and even pencils-shadows and pencils-blush! Moreover, every year the brands improve their textures and formulas.

Now it is difficult to imagine how a few centuries ago women did without this cosmetic product. However, it cannot be said that until the 10th century, history did not know pencil eyeliner: XNUMX thousand years BC. in ancient Egypt, women eyed with antimony. Moreover, it was believed that such eye makeup was needed not for beauty, but for a talisman. It used to be believed that such makeup protected from evil spirits. They did this with wooden sticks dipped in antimony powder. Doesn’t look like a pencil, you say? But at that time, artists painted in similar ways.

It is not known what make-up products might look like in our time if on October 26, 1794, the French scientist Nicolas Jean Conte had not invented the pencil that we are all used to seeing, with a lead in a wooden shell. Subsequently, it was this tool of writers and artists that inspired Max Factor to release the first cosmetic pencil designed for eyebrows. A few years later, a similar pencil appeared at the Maybelline brand.

But the eyeliner has a very interesting history. As already mentioned, eye makeup has been very popular since ancient Egypt. But for a long time, antimony remained almost an unrivaled tool for eyeliner: it was very difficult to find a safe dye that could be applied to the eyelids without the risk of going blind.

Dermatograzh helped create an eyeliner. At the beginning of the XNUMXth century, it was used in medicine before surgery, it was used to draw markings of future incisions on the patient’s body. It differed from an ordinary pencil in that it contained special ingredients that did not harm the skin. The same composition was then used to create cosmetic pencils.

The first colored pencils for eyes and lips appeared in the 1950s, almost immediately after the appearance of colored stationery pencils by the well-known companies Faber-Castell and Conte. It is worth noting that the composition of the products for the eyes and lips was different: the first creators added oils so that they did not cause allergies, and the second – vegetable waxes for resistance.

Since that time, cosmetic brands have been improving the composition of eyeliner and lip liner every year. Oils, vitamins, SPF filters are added to their formula. Bestselling pencils include Clarins Crayon Khôl for sensitive eyes, Maybelline’s MasterDrama creamy pencil, MAC’s Temperature Rising metallic sheen creamy pencil, Chanel’s Le Crayon pencil with a very pleasant texture (it contains vitamin E and chamomile extracts), a creamy Kohl Pencil by MaxFactor, a two-tone Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner Duo by EsteeLauder.

Lipstick & Shadow, Chubby Stick, Clinique & Blush Accentuating Color Stick, Shiseido

There are a huge number of makeup crayons on the market today. Among them are not only pencils for the contour of the eyes and lips, tonal pencils-sticks, pencils for cuticles, but also, for example, such interesting means as pencil-lipstick, pencil-shadow, pencil-blush.

In 2011, the Clinique brand released the Chubby Stick Lipstick by Clinique. The novelty immediately became a bestseller all over the world. However, this is not surprising: firstly, the tool is very convenient to use; secondly, it perfectly moisturizes and nourishes the skin of the lips and, thirdly, it has amazing durability. So, Chubby Stick has actually become a competitor to the lipsticks that are familiar to many.

And in 2013, Clinique has similar products for eye makeup – Chubby Stick Shadow pencils. New items, again, unlike compact eyeshadows, are very convenient. With them, you don’t have to worry about applying the product evenly on the eyelid. They are also very persistent and do not crumble during the day.

Remembering the best pencil-shaped products, we can’t fail to mention Shiseido’s Accentuating Color Stick. By the way, this tool can also be used as eye shadow.

Well, about such tools as a corrector pencil, cuticle pencil, French manicure pencil, you can not even mention. They appeared on the wave of popularity of their older brothers and fully met the expectations of manufacturers. Today we will not be mistaken if we say that a wooden pencil, which has adjusted its position as a stationery, has become perhaps the most popular cosmetic product. Eyeshadows, lipsticks and pencil-shaped eyeliners are very easy to use and fit even in the smallest cosmetic bag.
