“Our child had Down’s syndrome”

During the first ultrasound, the sonographer is not very reassuring. She announces a virtual certainty of Down’s syndrome, to be confirmed by another examination. Then she adds: “Either way, you are young, you will have others!«

A few days later, I have an amniocentesis. The team is at the top, I don’t feel any pain! Fifteen days pass, the gynecologist calls me so that we can meet quickly. I have a really bad feeling… My husband and I can’t wait. That same evening, we called the doctor back to find out what was going on. After having insisted a lot, he finally broke the terrible news to us: our child has trisomy 21.

We make an appointment to discuss the rest. He is very attentive, explains the various possibilities available to us, including termination of pregnancy. On our side, the choice has already been made.

Our IMG request must be validated by a commission. Unfortunately, we are in the middle of summer and a lot of doctors are on leave. The procedure is therefore delayed.

I finally gave birth more than a month after the “suspicion” …
