PSYchology

Very soon, sitting at the festive table, we will see off the old year, sum up, remember successes and losses and make wishes. Do you remember what you thought a year ago? Hardly. Why does this happen and how to make wishes so that they come true?

We hope that adversity will remain in the past. In unison, we freeze with a glass of champagne in hand and make wishes. With every beat of the chimes, a new dream. Half a minute — and we have planned something for the whole year ahead. General, global categories.

What do these desires mean to us? If we haven’t thought about them beforehand, it’s probably nothing. There is not enough time until “the clock strikes twelve” to understand what is really important and how to achieve it. Therefore, it is so difficult to realize and keep these desires in memory. These are just words.

So do our wishes have a chance to come true? Certainly! Many people want magic on New Year’s Eve: so that dreams come true without any of our participation. However, in many ways, what happens to us is directly related to our actions.

To act effectively, in accordance with our goals, we must correctly set the task. This is how our brain works: it needs clear goals, a program for their implementation and an image of specific results. Therefore, desires must be clear, achievable and measurable.

Desires must be clear, achievable and measurable

When formulating them, follow simple rules.

1. Take time to reflect on desires. 30 seconds in the atmosphere of a holiday is not enough. You will need a sheet of paper and a calm environment.

2. Write down your desires — whatever comes to mind. Try to formulate them in a positive way, without denials.

3. Check your desires with your life goals and values. If you find it difficult to immediately identify them, remember the moments that caused you strong emotions. Emotions are closely related to values, so if the situation works for our values, we are happy, and if we do not get what we really need, we get angry. How exactly do your desires relate to global goals in life? Some don’t? Cross them out and focus on the rest.

4. How achievable is your desire? For example, to be healthy is an understandable, but at the same time quite a common desire. What exactly does it mean? Do you want to not get sick? We all get sick sometimes, so treating health as the absence of disease is a road to nowhere. Do you want to have more strength? This wish is more real. What do you need strength for? Return to the second point — perhaps there is something else behind this desire, more valuable to you.

5. Try to be as specific as possible about your desire. What will give you strength? Restful sleep, toned body? What are you planning to do in the new year to improve your health? Do runs? Go to the gym? In which? How many times a week? What days?

6. Think about whether a fulfilled wish can be measured. What needs to happen for you to understand that your wish has come true? Run 5 miles every morning?

7. Try to present the image of the result in as much detail as possible. What emotions will you experience when the wish comes true? What will you think about? How will your self-image change?

8. Have you already bought a diary for next year? Write down your thoughts on it. Now you are ready for the holiday. Feel free to make wishes, because this time you understand exactly what is behind them and how to realize them.
