Myositis: treatment of the disease. Video

Myositis, or inflammation of the skeletal muscles, is a fairly common disease. The main symptom is pain of varying intensity, often accompanied by the appearance of hard “nodules” in the affected muscle areas. When you press them, the pain increases dramatically.

Types of myositis and the causes of its occurrence

In most cases, myositis can be successfully treated at home. But sometimes you can’t do without the help of a doctor. This disease can occur for a variety of reasons: due to any trauma, hypothermia, muscle cramps, excessive physical exertion, or being in an uncomfortable position for a long time. This myositis is called traumatic. It affects people of a wide variety of professions: loaders, musicians, drivers, PC operators, athletes, etc. Some people got into a situation where, after being in a draft – for example, at an open window or in front of a working air conditioner, their neck muscles became inflamed, so it was difficult to turn their heads. In such cases, as a rule, they say: “The man’s neck blew out.”

Often, myositis develops against the background of any infectious disease, for example, influenza or ARVI. There are cases (albeit very infrequent) when muscle inflammation is caused by parasites – then the disease is called “parasitic myositis”. This can happen, for example, when eating meat that is infected with the larvae of the parasite.

The most severe form of the disease is purulent myositis, when the infection, for some reason, got into the thickness of the muscles and suppuration occurred. In such cases, it is often impossible to do without surgical intervention if it is necessary to open a deep abscess and remove pus.

Traumatic myositis can be cured fairly quickly at home. To do this, it is enough to adhere to two main rules. Firstly, the affected muscle must be at rest, since when it is strained, the pain increases markedly and can cause very great discomfort. Secondly, it needs regular heating. If your neck is blown out, a warm woolen scarf or shawl will effectively help, especially in combination with warming compresses and massage. If the back muscle is inflamed, it is necessary to dress warmly (even in summer) or wrap the sore spot with a woolen scarf, a light blanket, etc.

It is better to use dry heat. But you can also take hot baths, especially if the muscles of the back and lower back hurt. After them, you must immediately wipe dry and dress warmly, avoiding cooling (otherwise you can aggravate the condition).

Various warming ointments have a good healing effect. In many cases, the Nayatox ointment, which contains the components of the Central Asian cobra venom, or the Ketonal gel with a strong analgesic effect, helps. Treatment will be most effective if the ointment is rubbed into the affected area immediately after a gentle kneading massage. But before using the product, you still need to familiarize yourself with the contraindications. For example, “Nayatox” is contraindicated in breastfeeding, renal failure, exhaustion and cerebral circulation failure.

Finalgon ointment and a number of aromatic oils can also help: sandalwood, lavender, rose. Mustard plasters, pepper plaster help a lot

If the pain is very severe, the patient can, in addition to these procedures, take drugs that have anesthetic and anti-inflammatory effect. But, of course, if the patient is not allergic to these drugs. It is better to take medications as prescribed by a doctor, because each person has individual characteristics of the body.

Warming compresses at night, for example, alcohol, help well. You can also apply an iodine mesh to the sore spot.

As a rule, well-being improves rather quickly. In most cases, when treating traumatic myositis, the pain is noticeably reduced after 2-3 days, and a maximum of a week later, complete recovery occurs.

However, as already mentioned, the occurrence of myositis can be caused by other reasons. Therefore, if such home remedies do not lead to an improvement in a person’s condition, it is necessary to see a doctor as soon as possible, undergo an examination and the prescribed course of treatment. After all, for example, if myositis is of an infectious nature, you will almost certainly have to take antibiotics, and a qualified physician should prescribe them. If myositis is purulent, at least a consultation with a surgeon (and, most likely, an operation) is necessary.

In addition, you should definitely consult a doctor if home treatment has eliminated the pain syndrome, but the person then feels weakness in the muscles for a long time. This happens if acute myositis goes into a chronic stage, and it can lead to very unpleasant consequences, up to muscle atrophy. Therefore, it is better not to risk it and seek medical help.
