Lavender plant: reproduction and transplant

The lavender plant has an exquisite scent. You can breed such a beauty in several ways.

You can propagate lavender using seeds, layering, divide the bush and use cuttings. The most difficult way is by seeds. This is due to the stratification of the material. Seeds will not sprout without “wintering”.

You can propagate a lavender plant from one bush.

At home, you can put the seeds in a peat mixture and send them to the refrigerator for 30-40 days. After wintering:

  1. Sow the seeds 3 mm deep in a box of soil at a temperature of 15-21 ° C.
  2. When 2-3 true leaves appear, dive the seedlings into pots of 5 pieces.
  3. Pinch the plants in the 5-6 leaf phase.
  4. Plant the seedlings outdoors in May.

The plant will bloom only next year. Autumn planting of seeds in open ground is not for temperate climates.

Cuttings work well with any type of lavender. Better to do it in the fall. For planting, woody cuttings from annual shoots are suitable. It is better to take the material from the middle part of the shoot.

A stalk 7 cm long must be cut off, freed from leaves and flowers and dipped in a growth stimulant powder. You need to plant cuttings in a sand pot. The planting should be covered with foil and removed every day for airing. Moisten the soil as needed. Rooting takes about 5-6 weeks, then the cuttings must be transplanted into the nursery.

Lavender requires affection for itself. Inaccurate pruning can lead to its death.

In the spring, you can breed lavender with layering. Place the shoot on the ground and fix it. Pour compost on top. The next year, you can separate the sprout from the mother bush. The bush must be divided in the fall. Trim the lavender to 10 cm and cover with soil, as if spilling potatoes. The soil should be distributed between the stems. Sprinkle earth on the bush again in the spring. In the fall, it must be dug up and divided.

After buying a plant, you need to transplant it. Prepare a pot for replanting, a large pot for mixing soil, lavender soil rich in potassium with a pH of no more than 6, perlite, expanded clay and a growth promoter.

In a container, mix 5 liters of soil with 1 liter of perlite. Planting consists of several stages:

  1. Remove the lavender along with the earthy clod.
  2. Pour 2-4 cm of expanded clay into the planting pot.
  3. Pour the earthen mixture there and make a depression in it.
  4. Plant lavender and cover with earth.
  5. Dilute “Zircon” – growth stimulant in 10 liters of water and pour lavender.
  6. After the water has drained off, add soil to the pot and tamp.

For several weeks it is necessary to water the plant with water with “Zircon”, gradually reducing the concentration to 0.

Lavender offers many opportunities to increase your herd. And you can buy it in a store or garden center.
