Treatment of infections during pregnancy

There are many infectious diseases. Each of them poses a danger to the development of the fetus. All infections can affect pregnancy to varying degrees. In case of infection, the negative impact on the fetus depends on many factors (gestational age, immunity).

Chickenpox (Varicella)

In childhood, the disease occurs without consequences and is quite mild. In adults, the course of the disease is complex. When a pregnant woman becomes infected, if the disease develops into chickenpox pneumonia, the risk of infection of the fetus is very high. The longer the pregnancy, the greater the danger of the disease.

Hepatitis B and C

Hepatitis of these types is immediately transmitted to the fetus in 100% of cases. Most dangerous period – first trimester of pregnancy.

Toxoplasmosis

The course of the disease is severe only with initially reduced immunity. In other cases, the disease may not manifest itself at all. The danger lies in the course without symptoms; in every second case, a developmental disorder occurs in the fetus. Toxoplasmosis affects the brain and spinal cord. The disease can be treated no earlier than the second trimester of pregnancy.

Cytomegalovirus infection

This virus is already in the bodies of most people. The development of the disease occurs with a sharp decrease in immunity.

Manifestation of cytomegalovirus infection:

  • swollen lymph nodes,
  • sharp muscle pain,
  • temperature rise.

If a woman becomes infected before pregnancy, her body has time to develop antibodies. If the infection occurs during pregnancy and there is no immunity, the infection will affect the fetus.

The disease can cause premature birth and cause intrauterine fetal death. Often this infection causes serious developmental defects.

chlamydia

Chlamydia can enter a pregnant woman’s body in most cases through sexual contact. Infection can occur even before pregnancy. Children are born with low birth weight, with reduced immunity, and with respiratory tract infections. There is a serious risk of developing pneumonia, inflammation of the membranes of the brain, and diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Treatment is carried out in the second trimester of pregnancy.

Rubella

Transmitted by airborne droplets.

Effects:

  • encephalitis,
  • congenital cataract,
  • heart defects,
  • congenital deafness,
  • changes in the size of the fetal brain,
  • meningitis.

If infection occurs in the very early stages, then a miscarriage most likely occurs. Infection is an indication for termination of pregnancy.

Herpes

Herpes is the most dangerous disease for a pregnant woman. If infection occurs during gestation, intrauterine fetal death or miscarriage. If a pregnant woman is diagnosed with a herpes virus at least a month before giving birth, a caesarean section is offered.

Mycoplasmosis and ureaplasmosis

Damage occurs to the woman’s genitourinary system.

Effects:

  • abortion,
  • polyhydramnios,
  • aging of the placenta,
  • insufficient attachment of the placenta,
  • discharge of amniotic fluid,
  • inflammation in the membranes of the fetus.

Syphilis

In the active stage, it can cause serious pathologies in the fetus (deformation of bones, teeth, diseases of the nervous system). This disease is almost impossible to cure during pregnancy.

ВИЧ

Completely affects the immune system. If all timely therapy is carried out, then the risk of contracting this infection is about 2%.

In the Prima Medica network of medical clinics you can take all the necessary tests.

There are no safe or harmless infections. Timely precautions taken will protect the health of your children.
