How to teach a child English from scratch at home: tips

There are several methods for teaching your child the English language. Some parents prefer to hire a tutor or enroll their baby in special courses. Others try to teach children on their own. This task is not so difficult, the main thing is to adhere to the basic rules of training.

Linguists’ advice: where to start learning

The easiest way is to teach a baby English in a specialized nursery. But not every city has such institutions. Therefore, parents prefer to teach their children at home. Moreover, at a young age, linguistic abilities are quite high. And kids perceive words and sentences on a subconscious level, and without memorizing any rules.

To teach your child English, you need to study with him at least an hour a day.

It is believed that babies learn best when they are 4 years old. And to begin with, they should be taught to speak, then over time they will quickly master the letter. Basic Rules:

  • Try to work with your baby for at least an hour a day. After a few months of such lessons, the child will understand a foreign language quite tolerably.
  • Try to interest your child. For example, you can buy a doll that “supposedly” speaks only English. Believe me, the baby will make a lot of effort to start communicating with his favorite toy.
  • Watch cartoons in English. Children are very intuitive and begin to translate words or phrases based on the emotions of the characters. Very quickly you will notice that the child is repeating after his favorite characters.

Remember, toddlers don’t like boredom. Therefore, each lesson should be in the form of a game. For example, you can memorize funny songs and rhymes with your child.

Learn words and phrases from scratch

In order for the baby to quickly memorize new words, try to use them in a suitable situation. For example, at dinner, tell us what a plate or a spoon means in English, take your baby to the zoo and together translate the names of animals into a foreign language. Do not try to learn difficult words that are not relevant to the child’s life. So, you will only confuse him.

Speak whole phrases at once to improve grammar. For example, when you see a cat, you need to say – This is a cat, and not just the name cat.

Having devoted 1-2 hours a day to simple and uncomplicated activities, you will quickly teach your child the English language. The main thing is that the process is presented as a fun and interesting game. Then the kid himself will get carried away with learning and achieve excellent results in it.
