How to make Caesar salad

Caesar salad has long passed from the category of delicacies and exclusively festive dishes into the category of dishes that are loved not only for their unique taste and lightness, but also for the speed of preparation.

The composition of Caesar salad does not imply special ingredients, and if you remember the history of its creation, it becomes clear that a real Caesar is very simple.

 

The author of the Caesar salad was an American chef Caesar Cardini, who once had to feed a horde of hungry guests with what was at hand before the bar closed.

The resourceful Italian decided to cook something from those products that were at hand, so he rubbed a large salad bowl with garlic, tore into it the lettuce, grated cheese, boiled eggs, added fried croutons and seasoned with olive oil and lemon juice. The result was amazing – the guests were absolutely delighted! Caesar salad became so popular that it glorified its inventor, and its recipe quickly spread throughout the world and reached our tables.

Classic Caesar Salad

Ingredients:

  • Romano salad – 1/2 head of cabbage
  • Ciabatta or any white bread – 300 g.
  • Parmesan – 100 g.
  • Olive oil – 2 + 2 tbsp. l.
  • Lemon juice – 2 tbsp. l.
  • Egg of chicken – 1 pcs.
  • Garlic – 2 cloves

It is only necessary to dwell in more detail on the method of boiling eggs. An egg at room temperature should be placed in boiling water and immediately removed from the heat, let stand for one minute, remove and leave for ten minutes. Then remove the slightly thickened contents, mix with olive oil and season with lemon juice. Cut the ciabatta into cubes, or better – tear it with your hands, spread it on a baking sheet, sprinkle with olive oil and send it to the oven. While the croutons are being prepared, roughly tear the pre-washed salad and put it on a dish or in a salad bowl grated with garlic. Rub the Parmesan into thin flakes. Put croutons on the salad, pour the dressing with egg and olive oil, top with cheese. Serve instantly.

In many sources, boiled eggs are added to the classic recipe, and anchovies are added to the dressing, but this is a controversial issue, over the hundred-year history of Caesar salad, the authentic recipe has been lost.

 

Caesar salad with chicken

Ingredients:

  • Chicken breast fillet – 400 g.
  • Romano salad – 1/2 head of cabbage
  • White bread – 300 g.
  • Parmesan – 100 g.
  • Olive oil – 2 tbsp. l.
  • Mayonnaise – 5 tbsp. l.
  • Soy Sauce – 1 Art. l
  • Worcester sauce – ½ tbsp l.
  • Garlic – 1 wedge
  • Sesame – 2 tbsp l.

Boil chicken fillet, bake in foil or in a baking bag, use smoked chicken breast – it all depends on taste preferences and the availability of products. From white bread, fry ruddy croutons in olive oil, sprinkle with sesame seeds at the end and cook for literally a minute, stirring constantly. Mix mayonnaise with soy and Worcester sauce. Grate the salad bowl with garlic, tear the romaine into large pieces, put the chicken on top, cut into thin slices across the fibers (like a sausage cut), pour over the dressing, longer – croutons and dressing, add grated cheese at the very end and serve.

Caesar salad with chicken, eggs and tomatoes

Ingredients:

 
  • Chicken breast fillet – 400 g.
  • Romano salad – 1/2 head of cabbage
  • White bread – 300 g.
  • Parmesan – 100 g.
  • Olive oil – 2 tbsp. l.
  • Mayonnaise – 5 tbsp. l.
  • Boiled egg – 3 pcs.
  • Cherry tomatoes – 200 g.
  • Garlic – 1 wedge

The method of preparation is the same as the previous recipe, only the salad is seasoned with mayonnaise (if desired, with homemade) and boiled eggs, cut into quarters and halves of cherry tomatoes, are added when serving. It is more effective to serve such a salad on a flat wide dish.

Caesar Salad with Shrimps

Ingredients:

  • Tiger shrimps – 8-10 pcs. (or ordinary – 500 g)
  • Romano salad – 1/2 head of cabbage
  • White bread – 300 g.
  • Parmesan – 100 g.
  • Olive oil – 2 tbsp. l.
  • Mayonnaise – 5 tbsp. l.
  • Soy Sauce – 1 Art. l
  • Worcester sauce – 1/2 tbsp l.
  • Anchovies – 2 pcs.
  • Garlic – 1 wedge

Prepare the dressing by mixing mayonnaise, soy and worcester sauces, chopped anchovies and garlic. Boil the shrimps, fry the croutons in olive oil or bake in the oven, tear the salad with your hands. Collect salad in a salad bowl or on a flat dish – romano leaves, shrimp, half dressing, croutons, grated parmesan and leftover dressing.

 

Caesar salad with salmon

Ingredients:

  • Fillet of lightly salted or smoked salmon – 400 g.
  • Romano salad – 1/2 head of cabbage
  • White bread – 300 g.
  • Parmesan – 100 g.
  • Olive oil – 2 + 2 tbsp. l.
  • Lemon juice (wine vinegar) – 2 tbsp. l.
  • Garlic – 1 wedge

Prepare croutons, put thin slices of salmon on torn lettuce sheets, pour with dressing of oil and lemon juice, add croutons, parmesan and serve.

In the preparation of Caesar salad, the fact that you can and should “play”, fantasize, is captivating on your own. Fry or cook croutons in the oven, cut or tear, or even use purchased croutons. Instead of meat and fish, cook Caesar with mushrooms or squid. Use the chicken or fish that you like best, smoked, boiled or baked. In any version of the salad, you can add in the form of tomatoes, olives and even bell peppers. Romano salad is successfully replaced with iceberg, Chinese cabbage, or any other juicy salad leaves. And what can we say about the dressing – on the counter of any store there is more than one type of dressing for Caesar salad if there is no time to cook it at home.
