How to make baking powder yourself

It happens that a baking powder is needed according to a recipe, but it is not at hand and there is no way to run to the store either. Make your own baking powder using flour, baking soda and citric acid – if you have these ingredients in your kitchen, you are saved.

The classic recipe for baking powder is quite difficult to implement: 4,8 g of soda, 3 g of citric acid, 12,2 g of flour. At home, it is problematic to measure out these tenths of a gram. But if you multiply everything by five, then it will be easier to measure, and even it will turn out for the future.

Ingredients in grams:

  • Baking soda – 24 g
  • Citric acid – 15 g
  • Starch or flour – 61 g

Ingredients in spoons:

  • Baking soda – 5 tsp
  • Citric acid – 3 tsp
  • Starch or flour – 12 tsp

Preparation:

1. Take a clean jar with a lid. Wipe or dry thoroughly so that no moisture remains on it.

2. Put 12 teaspoons of flour into the jar. By the way, you can replace it with potato starch – it can be stored even longer. Both are added to increase volume to make it easier to measure the finished product.

3. Add 5 tablespoons of baking soda and 3 – citric acid to the jar (it is better to crush it first, for a good quality baking powder). Close the cover tightly and shake it well. By the way, select such a jar in advance so that there is enough empty space in it. Then its contents will mix much faster.

4. When the mixture is smooth, the baking powder is ready. You can pour it into a smaller jar and make a sticker.
