How to know your breast size?

Knowing your breast size is essential for choosing the right underwear. Most women are convinced they know which bra to buy, yet sometimes they realize – late – that it is too small or too big. Here are the steps to find out your breast size.

Step 1: measure the size of the chest circumference

First, measure the size of the chest circumference. For that :

  • It is necessary to have a tape measure, or any other flexible tool – which can be rolled up – which indicates the graduations at least up to 110 cm. Without this, it is possible to use a non-graduated accessory – scarf, string… The measurement will then be recorded on a ruler.
  • Apply the measuring accessory at the tips of the breasts, at the location of the nipples, then go around, horizontally, passing through the back and under the armpits.
  • To know the exact breast size, it is important to ensure that you maintain a still, upright position and that you are naked.
  • Once the tape measure is stretched, without pressing too hard on the breasts, note the size of the chest circumference.

Step 2: measure the breast size under the breasts

This second step involves measuring the underside of the breast in the same way. The tape measure is then placed around the bust just below the breasts. For an exact result, it is important not to inflate or retract your rib cage: take the measurement after exhalation.

Step n ° 3: how do you know your breast size from the measurements of the circumference and below the breasts?

Once the measurements have been taken, a suitable concordance table must be used. Bra sizes include a number and a letter. The number corresponds to the chest measurement and the letter to the depth of the cup.

Correspondence between breast size under the breasts and chest measurement:

The measurement obtained in step 2 must be reported in the following table:

of 58 62 to

Calculation of cup depth:

The measurement obtained in step 2 – under the breasts – is subtracted from that obtained in step 1 – chest measurement. The result of the difference is reported in the following correspondence table:

13 cm

Example to find out her breast size:

The bust measurement over the breasts indicates 69, and the measurement under the breasts indicates 50.

  • The size of the chest circumference corresponds to an 85.
  • The cup is obtained by subtracting the 2 measurements: 69 – 50 = 19. This corresponds to a D cup.

The bra must be chosen in 85 D.

Why know your breast size?

By wearing the right size bra, women have 2 advantages:

  1. Comfort. A bra that is too tight can be overwhelming. Conversely, a bra that is too loose does not play its supporting role.
  2. The enhancement of the breast. The too small bra crushes the breasts while the too large bra is visible under the clothes. Choosing the right size enhances the breasts.

What is the average size of a woman’s breast?

In France, women wear a C cup on average. Their average chest circumference is 93.
