How to fit a Soviet carpet into a modern interior

Once not just popular, but a cult item of home comfort is back in fashion! Designers assure that the carpet inherited from your grandmother can again take pride of place in your apartment.

“In my practice, I quite often use carpets as a design solution. With them, you can create an exquisite interior, luxurious, while it will be comfortable and cozy, because the carpet keeps warm well, it is pleasant to touch it, especially if the carpet is handmade. From an aesthetic point of view, the richer the carpet pattern, the more unique the atmosphere will be in the interior. In addition, the carpet creates volume in the space and plays with the non-standard layout. “

If we talk about a new carpet, then the pattern and color scheme should be combined with the overall style of the interior. It can be an abstract ornament, a geometric pattern, or a plot picture. Remember grandmother’s carpets with deer, bears in the forest? It was very fashionable to hang them on the wall in the 60s of the last century.

Drawing ideas can be borrowed from history – now there is access to information, museums, art galleries, inspiration can be sought in any historical era. We advise creative people to come up with their own sketch of an ornament – no one will have such a thing.

True, the carpet inherited from the parents does not possess such a variety of textures. But it has its own advantages: bright decorativeness (if it was originally of high quality and well preserved), originality, a reminder of the past, vintage. Therefore, do not rush to look at it as something outdated, let alone get rid of it.

Today there are no canons that would oblige to use a particular style in the interior. Moreover, there is a tendency to combine all styles and trends into one project, which requires aesthetic flair from the designer.

An old Soviet carpet can be very successfully integrated into a modern interior, thereby giving it a new life, and using it in unexpected combinations that will enhance the impression of the interior, create coziness and a unique mood. The carpet can become a central decorative element in a room.

В classic interior such a rug will add an element of luxury with a touch of light vintage. If the interior is dominated by dark colors, leather or wooden furniture, then the old woolen carpet on the wall will dilute the formality and conservatism of the style, add coziness, but the style will not make it cheaper.

The Soviet carpet will fit well into a modern laconic style, for example, a loft. A soft, warm carpet will contrast with cold light shades of the interior or a brick wall, concrete texture.

Perfectly complements Scandinavian style, which is also minimalism. The well-known brand even introduced into its production carpets that strongly resemble our “Soviet” ones.

Appropriate location of the grandmother’s carpet in the living room next to the sofa. At the same time, furniture can be of a neutral color, and to play up the presence of a vintage carpet, you can use pillows that repeat its color or an element of the pattern. Such an interior should be supplemented with other themed accessories, a painting on the theme of Ancient Russia or folklore, and embroidery. But the main thing is not to overdo it: two or three objects that overlap with each other are enough.

The Soviet carpet looks great in the dining room both on the floor and on the wall. If you put the carpet on the floor, then on the wall next to the table you need to hang a picture depicting a landscape, still life, flowers.

And, of course, the woolen carpet next to the fireplace, associated with warmth, comfort and relaxation, looks harmonious and appropriate.
