How to choose a sink for the kitchen: practical advice, comparison of sinks

How to choose a sink for the kitchen

The sink is selected depending on the size of the room, the shape and color of the kitchen furniture. The most popular are two types of sinks: overhead and mortise. The first type is superimposed on a part of the kitchen unit – cabinets and is selected according to its color and structure. The second type cuts into the work surface – a wide table top.

There is another type – integrated sinks, installed together with the countertop. The shade of such sinks completely matches the color of the work surface.

In production, the countertop is attached to the sink with a solid color glue, which makes the seams invisible. A visually integrated washbasin looks more aesthetically pleasing, comfortable and easy to use.

Sinks are made from:

· of stainless steel;

· Acrylic stone;

· Composite (marble, granite, quartz chips);

· Natural stone (monolithic sinks);

· Cast iron.

A quality sink should contain 10% nickel and 18% chromium in stainless steel. Metal plumbing is considered universal, it fits perfectly into any interior and has a reasonable price. The disadvantages of steel sinks are their noise when in contact with water and dishes.

Acrylic stone sinks look aesthetically pleasing, they can be of various shades. Such sinks have a higher price than metal sinks, but they are less practical.

The fact is that acrylic stone is “capricious” and quickly collapses under constant exposure to high temperatures. Over time, chips, stains and cracks appear on the surface of an acrylic sink.

Composite sinks are stronger and more reliable than acrylic sinks, but their price is much higher (from 5 thousand for the simplest model). Composite can be very different, but mainly granite and quartz are used.

Monolithic sinks are made from solid stone or stone slabs. These sinks are durable and can withstand high temperatures. Of the minuses, they note the high cost and high weight.

Cast iron sinks have a glossy porcelain finish and are available in different shades. They are durable and resistant to mechanical stress, however, rust can appear on their surface over time.

Which sink for the kitchen to choose: tips

For small spaces, it is recommended to purchase corner round sinks. If the size of the room allows, then the most practical option would be to install an integrated sink with two bowls.

The optimal depth for a kitchen sink is considered to be 160-180 mm.

Before buying, carefully read the composition of the material from which the plumbing is made.

When choosing an acrylic sink, keep in mind that it is not recommended to use abrasive cleaners and detergents during operation. Monolithic and cast iron sinks require installation on strong mounts due to their heavy weight.

Choosing a sink for the kitchen is a responsible process, since the convenience of cooking and aesthetics of the room depend on the right purchase. Buy only those models that fit perfectly into your interior and kitchen space.
