How to choose a safe pan

Chances are you have at least one Teflon pan or other non-stick cookware in your kitchen. The toxic gases given off by Teflon at high temperatures can kill small birds and cause flu-like symptoms in humans (called “Teflon flu”).

Bakeware, pots, and storage containers finished with perfluorinated chemicals remain staple utensils in many homes. For eco-conscious consumers, switching to a different type of kitchen utensil becomes a long and costly process. Move in small steps, replace one of the things with a non-toxic alternative within a year.

Stainless steel

It is an indispensable material in the kitchen when it comes to cooking, stewing and baking. A frying pan made of this non-toxic material allows you to evenly heat any dish. Stainless steel is easy to clean with an iron brush from burnt fat. You can choose stainless steel cookware in different price categories – from exclusive baking trays and lasagne pans to economy-class baking tins.

Glass

Glass is an environmentally friendly material, non-toxic and durable. This is a great choice for a healthy kitchen. But it is worth noting that this is not a universal item, some foods in it are difficult to cook evenly. Glass molds work well for savory dishes such as pies, baked pasta and bread.

Ceramics

Clay and porcelain are organic materials that have been used for cooking since ancient times. Today, pottery comes in both plain and painted designs. You can buy such an item for the kitchen at a very reasonable price.

Safe non-stick cookware

A number of companies have succeeded in developing new technologies to combine the convenience of a non-stick coating with health safety. Green Pan has developed Thermolon technology, which uses a non-stick coating that is resistant to high temperatures. Orgreenic also makes products that feature an aluminum base and special coatings made from a combination of ceramic and a newly developed non-stick material that are environmentally friendly.
